Nominated for nine prizes at the 2016 BET Awards, Drake was bound to bring his sartorial A-Game on the evening of June 26. That is, if he had been able to attend. The Canadian-born rapper would have been on the red carpet of the BETs awaiting to hear whether he'd be taking home the Best Group, Best Collaboration, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video Of The Year, and Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice awards. When the time came for the Best Male Hip Hop Artist reveal, however, we learned that Drake did indeed win the award, but that he unfortunately couldn't be there to accept it for reasons unknown.
When it comes to style, the musician is most often seen rocking the black-on-black aesthetic so beloved by New Yorkers and mall goths everywhere, but he's also been known to popularize the varsity-esque jacket alongside velvet and suede textures. Award show-dressing for men usually consists of boring suit atop boring suit atop (you guessed it) another boring suit. But I have a feeling Drake would've been anything but boring.
This is a man unafraid of wearing pink; a man who made normcore cool again; a man who can pull off a Steve Urkel-esque aesthetic and work it with absolute flawlessness. Although we won't be seeing any of Drake this evening, we'll have to rest assured in the knowledge that he's still the sartorial dreamboat we know him to be.
Let us all bow down to the man who makes us swoon with his style prowess, even if he wasn't around to show it off tonight.
