Dr. Rollins Is Bad News On 'Pretty Little Liars'

by Kelly Schremph

It's hard to believe that at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the Pretty Little Liars Season 7 premiere will kick off and we can once again immerse ourselves in the high stakes drama that only happens in Rosewood. But considering it's been a few months since we last checked in with these characters (and this is the type of show where knowing even the smallest details can be important), I think a bit of a refresher may be in order, especially in regards to Alison's manipulative husband, Dr. Elliot Rollins. Right from the beginning, PLL fans were hesitant to trust this guy, who came across as a little too good to be legit. And now thanks to Season 6's jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we know our suspicions were warranted.

Not only did the finale reveal that Jessica DiLaurentis has a twin sister named Mary Drake, but it also confirmed that Rollins had been deceiving Alison the entire time they were together. You see, it turns out that Rollins was actually working with Mary Drake (aka Charlotte's biological mother) and only grew close to Alison so that he could eventually gain control of the Carissimi Group (and the money that comes with it), which, according to Mary Drake, was something that Charlotte would've wanted them to have. Rollins even went so far as to dress up like the deceased Detective Wilden in order to make Alison check herself into a mental hospital and sign all control over to him, her husband.

Basically, the bottom line of the story here is that Rollins is not a great guy and was totally using Alison for his own personal agenda. And while we still don't know exactly if he's even an actual doctor or was just pretending to be one to gain Alison's trust, we do know that he was in love with Charlotte, which at least somewhat explains the motivation behind his actions, though I'm sure we'll get more details of how that came about as Season 7 progresses. Either way, Alison has been officially duped by the man she's come to love and the odds are her being able to get out of the hospital without his consent are slim to none. (But on the plus side, this could give Emison a fighting chance, so there's that!)

It's also worth noting that by the end of the hour, viewers discovered that Rollins has a British accent — yet another aspect of himself he'd been keeping under wraps. And who else do we know from across the pond?

Wren, of course! So there's a good chance there's some sort of connection there and could very well be the key to how Rollins met Charlotte in the first place. Heck, I wouldn't even put it past the show to reveal that Wren and Rollins are actually related. The fact that Wren didn't turn out to be A this whole time still stings even now, but maybe Rollins is the common link we've been looking for in order to tie Wren more fully into this twisted little tale. And if that's the case, it'll be interesting to see how both of their storylines evolve from here. But knowing PLL, it'll be done in a way we'll never see coming.
