Throughout my viewing of Season 4 of Orange is the New Black , Judy King really stood out to me. She was so unapologetic about who she was, and a big part of who she was had to do with who she loved. Spoilers for OITNB Season 4 ahead. Multiple times she discussed how she had a husband and a boyfriend on the side. Then, later in the season, Judy King had a threesome with Luschek and Yoga Jones. It happened after the trio did a lot of drugs, and, while Jones and Luschek woke up with some regrets, Judy King had none and happily went on eating her breakfast.
I don't think Judy is a perfect person. She's in prison after all, has racist tendencies, and seems to enjoy using people and taking advantage of her fame. But, I also think she's admirable for one quality: Her unashamed sexual expressions. In one episode she says, "I have nothing to hide, no shame here. Yes, we did drugs and we had ourselves a threesome right there. People are always trying to desexualize people my age, and I just won't allow it." You go, Judy King.
Bustle's Caroline Gerdes previously wrote an essay about a sex scene in Grace and Frankie that featured two older people, and pointed out how rare that is to see on mainstream TV. Granted, that show and this one are on a streaming service, but they're still reaching a huge audience and showing people that no matter how old you are, you can always enjoy sex.
Judy is a self-proclaimed "polyamory expert," and she also seems attracted to people regardless of their gender, given her threesome with a man and a woman. And, she's not only unashamed, but she's happy to tell anyone and everyone. I don't respect everything about her character, but I do respect that she's proud of her sexuality, and I admire OITNB for introducing yet another female character who loves outside the box. Representation for all sexualities in media is key, and, once again, the writers knocked it out of the park.
