When it comes to technology updates, Facebook rarely disappoints users, and this time is no exception. If you're wondering what's new in Facebook Messenger, you're in luck! Facebook recently released a ton of new features for people who use the Messenger app (which, let's be real, is pretty much everybody at this point). Whether or not you're a tech enthustiast, it's always fun to at least learn about the new trends coming out in technology, even if you (like me) are mind boggled by the inner workings of it all.
In order to experience all the cool new features Facebook Messenger has in store for you, it's pretty simple (thankfully). In their press release, Facebook explained that these updates are "aiming to make Messenger simpler to use by presenting more relevant information." As of right now, it appears that these new features will be available for both iOs and Android users; there isn't a definitive date, but a post on the Messenger Facebook page says that it will "begin rolling out globally to everyone this week." So keep your eyes peeled!
Until then, though, you can check out these changes to Facebook Messenger in a video posted to the Facebook Newsroom page — and here's the lowdown, for those of you who just want the general gist. This update should only make things even smoother than they've been so far!
1. The Home Feature
The Home feature is a handy little icon depicting a house that brings you back to your Messenger "home." This is nice for when you're flipping around between conversations or are juggling multiple things at once. You can access all of the new features, like Favorites and Birthday Reminders, by clicking the "Home" icon.
2. Favorites
The new Facebook Messenger update that I am personally the most excited about is the "Favorites" section. Just below the section of people you've chatted with most recently, you'll get your "Favorites" section, comprised of people you chat with the most frequently. Convenient, right?
3. Birthday Reminders
Ah, Birthday Reminders. I think it's safe to say that we all remember people's birthdays pretty much entirely thanks to Facebook now. Birthday reminders appearing in Messenger make it easy to actually message someone directly instead of just writing "Happy Birthday!" on their wall (though you can, of course, do both, if you so desire).
4. Active Now
The "Active Now" section shows you exactly what you'd expect: Who is active and online right in this very moment. If someone is "active now," you'll see a little green dot next to their name. Facebook Messenger will even prompt you to message people when they're "active now," which is a nice reminder to say "hi" to that friend you haven't seen since middle school. I mean, why not, right?
