How Did Tom Hiddleston & Taylor Swift Meet?
Sometimes you hear a piece of celebrity gossip and you think, "Preposterous! That simply cannot be." That was exactly my response to the news that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston were spotted kissing — but when I saw that The Sun had published photographs of Swift and Hiddleston's "secret" make out session in Rhode Island, I almost passed out from shock. (In response to the photos, Bustle reached out to Swift and Hiddleston's reps for comment — Swift's rep has yet to respond, while Hiddleston's rep had no comment.) It was only weeks ago that Swift and Calvin Harris confirmed their her breakup after 15 months together, which broke Talvin shippers' hearts. If these photos are real, then Swift's new maybe-romance with The Night Manager actor shows that the singer is wasting no time moving on from her DJ beau. So how exactly did Hiddleston and Swift meet leading up to their jaw-dropping canoodling photos? I have an answer, and it proves that one night could possibly change everything.
According to reports, Swift and Hiddleston were first spotted hanging out together at the 2016 Met Gala on May 2, and, naturally, their interaction went viral. Swift and Hiddleston were filmed goofing off at the gala, and hit the dance floor to the tune of T.I.'s "Bring 'Em Out." According to HollywoodLife, Swift, who was still dating Harris at the time, allegedly did not bring Harris to the major celebrity event because he's reportedly shy. Later, however, a source for HollywoodLife stated that Harris was very upset with the dancing video, as he didn't like his then-girlfriend dancing with another man. Of course, that's just a rumor, but the timing is certainly interesting.
Hiddleston revealed more about his hang with Swift at the Met Gala in an interview with the Press Association, stating: "I haven’t actually danced for a long time, but I happened to be dancing at the Met Gala because it was a party. I was on a table with Taylor Swift and The Weeknd was playing and she said, ‘The thing about these parties is nobody gets up to dance’ and you’re making music. She, as a musician, was like, ‘We’ve got to dance for The Weeknd’ so we got up and danced."
Though it's unclear if the Met Gala is the very first time Hiddleston and Swift got to know one another, it seems to be the only public event where they were spotted together. Until Hiddleswift announces that they are officially "a thing," or debunks the photos as a bizarre hoax, we'll have to keep speculating about what this romance would look like.
