It's no secret that tonight's Tony Awards belong to Hamilton, and that includes the hottest couples on the red carpet. How gorgeous are Hamilton's Leslie Odom Jr. and his wife Nicolette Robinson at the Tony Awards? In a red carpet interview, the married couple talked about wanting to star in something together — but they can't figure out exactly what that would be.
Odom Jr.'s wife crashed the Hamilton nominee's interview towards the end. (This was probably for the best, as he was making Tick, Tick... Boom! references with Karen Olivio that most casual red carpet viewers may not have understood). Robinson, an incredible actress and singer herself, was recently in Invisible Thread Off-Broadway, She also stars in The Affair on Showtime as Jane. She and Odom Jr. are so stinkin' cute together, and extremely talented, but I'm not sure what show I would cast them in either.
Who would write something for them? Odom Jr. didn't want to speculate and potentially upset any of his friends. That's understandable, as there are so many talented writers on and off Broadway right now. Perhaps Lin-Manuel Miranda himself could put politics aside and write them a romantic comedy? What about Danai Gurira? The Walking Dead star is a Tony nominated playwright this year for Eclipse. As far as up and coming composers though, the Dear Evan Hansen writers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are sure to be in demand.
Sara Bareilles is also nominated for Waitress, so maybe we should extend composer ideas beyond the realm of musical theatre. The point is, people need to know about this couple — and if someone were to write a show for them, I certainly wouldn't complain.
