Check Out The Poster For Disney's 'Moana'

by Alexis Rhiannon

I hesitate to do this, because the movie itself won't be out for another few months, and I don't know how you're supposed to keep calm until then. But did you know the first poster for Disney's Moana has been released? As if you're some sort of superhuman who can get extraordinarily excited about something in June and maintain your chill until November. As I'm sure we all know by now, Moana is set in the South Pacific and will star fresh shining new face Auli'i Cravalho (or I guess fresh shining new voice, since it's animated and we never see her, only hear her) as the title character Moana Waialiki, a young woman who sets out into the wild blue of ancient Oceania looking for an island that may or may not exist.

Moana is accompanied by your average demigod Maui, who is of course played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson... which turns out to be an awesome thing for us in more ways than one, because he's the one who shared this new poster with the entire world via his Twitter. Nothing quite like having a social media-savvy star who's excited to share each and every moment of the movie's reveal with his eager audience. Which brings us to Jun. 8, when Johnson dropped the piping-hot poster straight into our laps.

For something so minimal, it's making a huge impact. Moana and Maui themselves take up a surprisingly small amount of poster real estate, standing proudly on their tiny boat as it crests a wave, while most of the frame is taken up by sky and the ocean rushing up to meet it. There's a lush green island visible in the middle distance and the tagline, "The ocean is calling."

Yes. Yes it is. Just like this movie is calling me to get my butt into a seat at the theater. Something about this poster just gets me so hype — the combination of all that blue, the motion of the waves, and the fact that the only two characters in view have their back to us gives me such a clear picture of how beautiful the film is going to look. Not to mention how inspiring I just know the storyline is going to be.

And just to top it all off, The Rock mentioned in his tweet that a teaser trailer for Moana will be dropping on Jun. 12, so I guess that's the day I'll be needing to give myself a tranquilizer, if I have any hopes of making it to the movie's theatrical release on Nov. 23. Deep breaths, everybody. Deep breaths.
