If Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is the instigator and Leslie Odom’s Aaron Burr is the tragic hero of Hamilton, then Phillipa Soo’s Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton is the heart. For anyone who has had the fortune of seeing Hamilton with the original cast, one can’t help but feel the chemistry between all the players. With The Hollywood Reporter reporting that sources claim Miranda will soon leave the Broadway show and other cast members are pondering their next moves (though no departures have been confirmed), Hamilton will definitely change as the key players depart. And thanks to a new report, I'm wondering if Phillipa Soo will leave Hamilton.
On June 11, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Soo will leave Hamilton in July, according to unnamed "insiders," though she has not confirmed anything. Bustle has reached out to Soo's representative for comment on this report but has not yet heard back. However, on June 8, before THR's report, Soo spoke to Entertainment Tonight about what's next for the Hamilton cast and said, "I feel like because we’re all coming to this place where the show will be shifting and changing, we’re all kind of thinking about that." However, she also added that no decisions about her future with the musical had been made at that time.
But whether it's this July or years down the line, there will someday be a time when Soo is no longer playing Eliza Schuyler. Coming off of Hamilton, I’m sure the world will be her oyster, so I have a few ideas for Soo’s next move, whenever she's ready to try something new.
Soo Becomes A Disney Princess
She's already a part of the new Disney movie Moana — which Miranda is composing the music for — but it's not a starring role, and Soo has proven that she has the voice of a Disney princess. Why isn't she one yet? Broadway belts are made for the Disney movie screen — just look at how well Frozen did with Idina Menzel at the helm. Maybe Moana will be her first step towards becoming a princess herself.
Soo Originates Another Big Broadway Role
Speaking of princesses, Disney is still eager to do a musical adaptation of the much-loved film The Princess Bride, according to Playbill. If the play happens, Soo could totally fulfill the role of the title character.
Soo Quits The Broadway Life To Live The Simple Life
I truly, absolutely think that she'll win a Tony for her time in Hamilton, and, as Eliza sings in the show, "that would be enough." Maybe Soo would take her Tony and leave the big city behind forever in lieu of a simpler life. She already likes gardening (it's all over her Instagram). Maybe she could parlay that into a full-fledged career making jam in Vermont or something. You just have to think to yourself — WWESD (What Would Eliza Schuyler Do). The answer? Whatever she wants, really.
No matter what Soo's Hamilton future holds, she'll have plenty of options outside of the musical as her career continues to flourish.
