How To Nail The "No Makeup" Look

by Jessica Willingham

I love that "no makeup" makeup is a trend everyone loves to rock this summer, from the beach to the red carpet. We're all striving for better skincare and luminous, healthy, sun-safe skin, so why not show it off? Still, it can be nervewracking. So here's how to do the "no makeup" makeup look if you're nervous.

Whether you feel more yourself in full-face glam or are nervous to go bare as you battle skin issues, it's hard to embrace facing the public without any makeup. I feel you! But take note (and heart) from the King of Kylie Cosmetics Kylie Jenner, who recently posted a "no makeup" makeup selfie with the simple caption "Hello." Hello, indeed! She looked natural, dewy, healthy, and totally comfortable in her skin. She might have stolen this idea from her big sis Kim Kardashian, whose recent Australia Vogue showed a totally stripped down and barefaced Mrs. West.

"No makeup" makeup is exactly what it sounds like. Sure there may be less product, but it certainly isn't product-free. The goal is to create a natural look that allows you to shine through, while still taking care of your skin and feeling confident. Less can really be more, folks.

It's totally doable for everyone!

Here's how:

1. Use Primer

Too Faced Primed And Poreless Smoothing Face Primer, $30, S ephora

My favorite trick for going bare isn't to go bare at all. Instead, moisturize and prime your skin, and that's it! The primer will fill in your pores, smooth your skin, and protect it from dirt and grime.

2. Mix Primer & BB Cream

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer SPF, $37,Sephora

You can find a primer, BB cream, and sunscreen all-in-one product, or customize your own by mixing it all together and applying it that way. Even when you go bare, you can still protect and correct.

3. Brush Your Eyebrows, But Leave Them Bare

Sigma E80 Brow and Lash Brush, $15, Sigma Beauty

Instead of wasting time drawing on brows, leave yours bare. If you want a little more drama, give them a boost by brushing them upwards and out, and setting with a bit of hairspray on a Q-tip.

4. Use A Hydrating Balm

Chapstick Total Hydration, $4, D rugstore

Skip lip liner, lipstick and gloss and opt for a hydrating balm that adds shine without hiding your natural pout.

5. Curl & Condition Your Lashes

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum, $10, Walgreens

This fortifying gel will add shine to your natural lashes, so they stand out in an understated way (as compared to mascara). This formula also promotes growth, and you can even use them on your brows!

6. Use A Dewy Setting Spray

NYX Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray Dewy Finish, $8, U lta

Hydrate your skin and give it a healthy glow with a setting spray.
