BSB Performed Their Best '90s Songs On Miss USA

by Michelle McGahan

For those of us who can ignore the glittery crowns and high-waisted bikini pageantry of Sunday night's Miss USA competition, the beauty pageant was basically a televised Backstreet Boys concert — and I am perfectly content with this. Backstreet Boys' Miss USA 2016 performance brought a mix of high-level energy and sweet '90s nostalgia to the competition, as Nick Carter, AJ McClean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson glided through their performance with swoon-worthy dance moves and the kind of falsetto vocals that instantly brought me back into my Tiger Beat plastered childhood bedroom. Ah, the days of yore.

It should be said that even a solid 19 years after the Backstreet Boys' self-titled debut album, the Boys can seriously still kick it in 2016. Nostalgia-loving antics aside, BSB puts on a solid show — one that both their loyal fans and viewers of the competition (including the Miss USA competitors themselves) can seriously appreciate. (That lip-sync of "I Want It That Way" in the dressing room was life.) Performing a medley of "As Long As You Love Me" and "I Want It That Way" — BSB classics, TBH — the Boys (Men?) delivered the kind of performance that proves why fans worldwide are still packing into arenas to see their faves. BSB 4 life.
