These Doug Ross Quotes From 'ER' Are Still Sexy

by Sabienna Bowman

Long before McDreamy was giving you false expectations about the level of sexiness of your average doctor, ER 's Doug Ross was the hottest doctor to ever doctor on TV. A huge part of his appeal was wrapped up in the fact that Doug was played by a roguish, young George Clooney, but Doug was also famous for making pretty much every word that came out of his mouth crazy sexy. Sometimes he was being naturally flirty as he bantered with his one true love Carol, and other times he was just shouting out medical lingo with enough confidence to make even the most stoic of TV fans hot and bothered.

In the very first episode of ER, his best friend, Mark, had to bring him to the ER in an attempt to sober him up before his shift, and throughout the series he made a number of bad choices that put other people's careers on the line. Despite his bad boy behavior, Doug was all kinds of irresistible though. Between his romance with Carol and his devotion to protecting every child who came through the ER, Doug's heroic heart always won out, and, even when he was driving you nuts, he could make you forgive him by dropping a line that was dripping with hotness.

While I cannot advise using these lines on your next date unless you possess the natural charisma of Clooney, these Doug Ross lines are seriously inspiring in their unadulterated sexiness.

1. That Time He Realized What Love Is & The Entire World Swooned

"Carol... I'm in love with her. I mean, I used to think I knew what love was. I cared about a lot of women, I just don't think I've ever really been in love. I think about her all the time. I don't like it when I'm not with her, I don't want to be with anyone else. That's love, isn't it?"

Excuse me while I drown in a pool of my own emotions.

2. When He Spoke The Universe's Greatest Truth

"There are no accidents."

Just to add to the beauty of this line, Doug dropped it to prove to Carol that they were totally destined.

3. That Time Saving Lives Turned Him On

"That was like clockwork. We haven't done a save like that in a long time. You were great. You anticipated every move, every beat."

Saving lives turns into foreplay in no time when Doug is on call.

4. When He Was Adorably Sarcastic About his Bestie

"What can I say about Mark Greene that hasn't already been said? I think everybody knows how he overcame adversity as a child of Quakers, his years in exile, his political writings and limericks, his mod period with the turtlenecks, his blue period, and, of course, his ruthless march to power and the silencing of his rivals."

There is nothing sexier than well-timed, good-natured sarcasm.

5. That Time He Was Totally Casual About Risking His Life

In the process of attempting to save someone stuck in an elevator, Carol tries to convince Doug it's too dangerous because the elevator could move at any minute. Doug's response?

"Well, then you won't have to worry about a commitment."

Only Doug Ross, my friends, only Doug Ross.

6. When He Got Serious...

"Tell him that you don't love me. Tell him that you don't think about me when you're with him."

I literally have no words for just how heartbreaking and stunning this quote is.

7. ...And Super, Snarkily Honest

"I tend to drink, but I'm not the best role model."

Oh, Doug. Your imperfect perfection was too real sometimes.

8. When He Appreciated Just How Awesome Nurses Are

"You do things for people that doctors don't even think about doing."

Nothing is hotter than a man who appreciates what you do.

9. When He Asked Carol For A Drawer

"A drawer. Something you keep your clothes in. Something that I would keep my clothes in."

My heart.

10. That Time He Put His Heart On The Line

"Come here. I want to be with you, and I want to be here with you, because I want to be with you."

How Carol didn't melt every single time Doug spoke to her, I will never understand.

11. When He Said What Everyone Was Thinking

"Jerry, call security. Somebody's in my parking space."

Said immediately after a car crashes into the ER.

12. That Time He Made His Feelings On Authority Figures Clear

"Typically narcissistic of you, Mark. I can't take the fact that anyone's my boss."

Doug's anti-authoritarian stance was one of his hottest attributes.

13. When He Publicly Proposed To Carol

"Maybe something you guys didn't know, that we've been seeing each other for a while now, again, and I think it would be a great idea if she would marry me."

So casual, so hot, and so perfectly Doug.

In conclusion, Doug Ross is and always will be the sexiest doctor ever to grace TV screens.
