Kanye's 'Cruel Winter' Collab Is THE BEST
If you thought that he would want to take a breath after the release of The Life of Pablo, then you obviously don't know Yeezy. Friday morning, Kanye West released the first single of upcoming album Cruel Winter on Los Angeles’ Real 92.3. Cruel Winter, for the uninformed, is slated to be sort of a follow-up to Cruel Summer, a collaborative project between Kanye and a slew of huge names in hip hop like Jay Z, Big Sean, Common, and Kid Cudi. So, naturally, you have to wonder who's on the new Cruel Winter single if we're going to make a return to group projects?
Well, it turns out that this time around there are even more big names than ever. This single alone features Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Quavo, Travis, Desiigner, Yo Gotti, Big Sean (again!), and, of course, the biggest name of all, Kanye himself. That is a lot of cooks in the kitchen, my friends, and so far... I'm not quite sure I can say it works. The untitled track seems a bit crowded, convoluted, and confused. But this song is still more of a demo, a taste of things to come. Knowing Kanye, he won't debut anything formally until it's nothing less than genius, pure perfection. You know, to his standards.
So when will Cruel Winter come out, anyway? That, in itself, is up for debate. With Cruel Summer being released way back in 2012, the sequel has been highly anticipated by both fans and people in Kanye's crew. Truth be told, the power players on the last album weren't even certain that there was going to be a Cruel Winter. Back in September of last year the likes of Q-Tip and Pusha-T teased the possibility of a Cruel Winter , whereas Travis Scott has been saying Cruel Winter has been coming as far back as 2013. This is really the first official taste of the upcoming album, so I wouldn't really trust any word of when it is coming out unless it is from the mouth of God himself.
What is probable, though, is that you're probably see more stars off Kanye's record label, G.O.O.D. Music, when the album does finally drop. Let's hope that, by the time that happens, there's just a little bit less cacophony.
But maybe I'm just being judgmental. Feel free to listen to the first untitled single off the record, and brace yourself, because Cruel Winter is coming... probably.
