Piers Morgan Live is being cancelled by CNN because according to Morgan, Americans don't really like Piers Morgan. "Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it," he said in response to losing his show. But Morgan's polarizing comments haven't just turned his Americans viewers against him, thanks to his Twitter feed Morgan has found opposition everywhere. Why? Because he likes to rile people up via 140 character messages, and he'll start fights with everyone from celebrities to journalists. I hope he has a Google alert on his name right now because I want him to see his most incendiary tweets and be forced to reflect on these words that he's put out into the universe.
1. FIGHTING WITH TOP GEAR'S JEREMY CLARKSON
As with most of his celebrity feuds, nobody knows why he's fighting with Jeremy Clarkson, only that he continues to do so using low blows like calling Clarkson a girl.
Clarkson celebrated the news of Morgan's show cancellation with his own tweet this morning, saying "I'm feeling strangely contented this morning. I wonder if something wonderful has happened somewhere." Distinctly more classy than anything Morgan has said to him.
2. PICKING ON RIHANNA'S HAIR
Morgan likes to perpetuate that terrible stereotype that women don't look good with short hair but he said it to the wrong woman because Riri wasn't having any of it and responded "grow a dick..... FAST!!!!"
3. COMBINING EVERYONE'S FAVORITE WEDDING WITH TERRORISM
Ah yes, nothing like comparing the union of two people in love to the death of a terrorist and throwing in soccer for the hell of it.
4. BEING A GENERALLY TERRIBLE PERSON WHO CRITICIZES FIRST AND FACT CHECKS LATER
Then there was the time he directed a massive hate effort towards 21 year old Georgia Ford who simply asked if Wimbledon had always been held in London. (It hadn't by the way.) Morgan plucked this girl out of anonymity and mocked her on a national stage saying:
Which encouraged his followers to make similar comments towards the girl like calling her "Possibly the stupidest person alive" and a "fecking moron" which eventually lead Georgia Ford to delete her Twitter account.
After finding out that it wasn't a stupid question at all because until 1965 Wimbledon was held in Surrey, Morgan agreed to a public apology on a radio station. But when Ford declined, not wanting to play into Morgan's PR attempt, Morgan reneged on his apology saying, "given @Georgia_Ford's response to my attempt to make amends, I don't feel bad any more. Sounds like she can handle herself just fine!"
Just because she stood up to you, doesn't mean she doesn't still deserve your apology!
5. ALL THE TRANSPHOBIA
This has a long backstory, and Morgan is very much at fault. Basically he had transegender advocate Janet Mock on his show and then proceeded to say she used to be a man even though Mock had never identified as a man. Mock later said, "He doesn’t really want to talk about trans issues, he wants to sensationalize my life and not really talk about the work that I do."
People wrote to Morgan on Twitter calling him out for misgendering Mock and for calling her by her birth name more times than her chosen name. Morgan responded to the backlash by acting like he was somehow the victim.
Then came this utterly laughable tweet where he managed to insult the very people he was supposedly siding with?
This widely publicized debacle went down earlier this month, so though Morgan blames his stance on gun control for why viewers stopped tuning in, I'd peg his firing closer to this event because it's 2014 and CNN probably decided there just isn't room for bigots like him on their channel anymore.
