'RHOA's Cynthia & Peter Are Separated

by Allyson Koerner

In what probably won't be shocking news to Real Housewives of Atlanta fans, Cynthia Bailey and Peter Thomas are separated, Cynthia confirmed to Bravo's The Daily Dish on Tuesday. "Peter and I are separated," she said. "He lives in Charlotte, and I live in Atlanta." Currently, the two are trying to figure out where their relationship will go from here, but until then it seems like they are handling the separation in a healthy way. She said,

I am definitely taking some time to myself to figure out how I want to move forward. I don't want to rush into anything, so I think this time apart is good for us. And I think the space apart, I think he can appreciate it as well. I think it gives people time to think and process and just move forward in a way that really is healthy for everyone involved.

I respect both of them for taking the time they need to not only figure out what's next for their marriage, but to spend time apart looking inward at themselves and what will make them happy longterm. It doesn't surprise me that Cynthia doesn't want to rush into anything too quickly. She's always been level-headed like that.

As RHOA viewers know, Season 8 wasn't an easy time for Cynthia and Peter. I mean, the Cynthia Bailey Eyewear designer spent most of Season 8 trying to get her marriage back on track. By the time the season came to an end, their relationship seemed to be repaired, but it was clear they were still having issues by the time the Season 8 reunion filmed, because Cynthia said,

Jamaica was fun. We had a good time together. Just because we are having issues don't mean we can't have a good time together. I've been with this man for eight years. We can certainly figure out how to have a good time in Jamaica or any beautiful island. So Jamaica was good, but it didn't change issues that we were still dealing with.

Cynthia pretty much said that she was separated from Peter while chatting with The Daily Dish in March, but never came outright and used the word "separated" to describe their relationship status. She said at the time,

The status of our relationship is we are not in a good place. Peter is in Charlotte, and as you can see, I'm in New York. We're definitely not together. I have been taking some time for myself to just kind of figure out how I would like to move forward. We haven't officially done anything at this point, but we are definitely talking about taking steps to officially move forward in a different direction.

As sad as the news might be, especially for fans of the two, at least they are taking healthy steps for whatever their future may hold.
