The inevitable has happened. Rihanna dropped a new generation of Puma Creepers — her third so far— which includes an all-white leather pair, an all-black suede pair, and a maroon and green pair with that instantly recognizable oatmeal gumsole. The $140 shoes went on sale at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 26, and were made available at the Puma site and at select Puma stores. They were supposed to go on sale via Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, as well, per Puma PR reps. The shoes moved quickly, crashing the Puma site and eventually selling out, firmly establishing the Rihanna x Puma Creeper as the sneaker of the summer of 2016 and perhaps beyond. I know many of you sneaker pimps and fashionistas are inconsolable due to the fact that these cool AF shoes have sold out, which begs the question. Will Puma be restocking this generation of Rihanna Creepers?
Will supply meet demand? Or will fans, customers, and sneaker lovers be forced to seek out the shoes on third party sites?
Puma PR reps told Bustle in an email that the shoe is "a limited release, like other Creeper drops before it." The reps also told us that "restocks are not planned. Should it happen, press and consumers will be informed."
I'll pause to let this cold, hard fact sink in. I know, the pain is real.
When we pointed out that Women's Wear Daily reported that monthly Rihanna x Puma restocks were in the works, the reps told us, "More to come, stay tuned!" So perhaps you can cling to that tiny vestige of hope. Or you can go ISO the Rihanna x Puma Creepers on third party sites, although I recommend doing your homework to make sure the shoes are authentic if you opt to purchase in that manner.
However, Nordstrom tweeted that its on-sale is moving to 5/31, so it sounds like you'll have another chance to scoop them up later in the month at a different retailer.
The Rihanna Puma Creepers are so hot that they are thermonuclear. Everyone wants a pair and making them incredibly difficult to get only further increases the desire for them. You always want what you can't have, be it in life, love, or fashion.
If you managed to scoop up a pair of these sneakers, congrats! If not, well, you might have to wait for a fourth generation drop featuring new colorways, since a restock is not on the horizon.
Unless, of course, the powers-that-be at Puma change their minds and decide they want to make a lot of customer and athleisure fans happy.
The Puma Creeper price online is also $140. We initially saw $120 and were told $150. But it ended up being $140.
