Already dreading that post-Arrow summer hiatus itch? I don't blame you. With the Season 4 finale only hours away, fans have a long wait ahead of them until receiving another Emerald Archer fix. Granted, no official release date has been announced regarding when Arrow Season 5 will premiere next fall on The CW, but early October feels like a pretty safe bet, considering that's when the last four seasons have debuted. There's a long time between then and now, but thankfully the cast and crew are taking pity on us and already dishing out a few juicy Season 5 spoilers.
During a recent interview with TVGuide.com, Arrow showrunner Wendy Mericle teased that the Season 4 finale title "Schism" is "a good clue" for what Season 5 will center around. So considering that the definition of schism means a split or rupture, this could be a big indicator that Team Arrow is about to go through a major divide in its ranks, which could cause big problems for the Green Arrow moving forward. Because while Oliver may be the star of the show, he relies very heavily on his fellow comrades these days, so without them by his side, who knows how things will play out.
But allegiance problems won't be the only worry Oliver Queen will have to contend with next year. As per usual, you can expect a new villain to enter the fold, and Stephen Amell recently assured Variety at The CW Upfronts that this new Big Bad is unlike anything fans have ever seen before. "I’ve heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you’re in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show,” Amell told the outlet. And while he remained vague on the details, he did confirm that "as far as I know, they don’t have superpowers" like Damien Darhk, so get ready for Season 5 to go back to its origins and retreat away from any mystical plot developments.
It's also worth noting that during the Justice Squad Convention in France, Colton Haynes reportedly revealed that he'll be returning to Arrow Season 5 for multiple episodes. You know, just in case you needed any more incentive to get pumped for next fall. Could this mean that Thea and Roy could get back together? Now that her recent beau Alex has been shot and killed, Thea is back on the market, so anything is possible. And who knows, maybe Arsenal's return could before a more permanent fixture down the line.
Suffice to say, if these teasers are any indication, Arrow's fifth installment already looks pretty amazing, so I think I speak for everyone when I say fall can't get here soon enough.
