What You Need To Know About "Nontouring"

by Gina Jones 2

Miss Kardashian-West brought contouring into the mainstream. But this week, she took it right back out again. Recently, Kim Kardashian introduced nontouring: Her new favorite beauty trend. It's a bit more laid-back than her quintessential chiseled look, but it's still anything but basic.

Speaking on an "in conversation" panel at Vogue Festival alongside makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury and British Vogue's Fiona Golfar, Jezebel reported that the reality star and businesswoman spoke out against the beauty technique that arguably helped shape her face and her career. Her comments didn't totally dismiss the contouring craze, however, but opened the world up to a new trend that's set to take over the second half of 2016: nontouring.

"I think right now it's more about nontouring, like real skin with less make-up on it. I'm trying to wear less... and my husband loves me without makeup," she told the audience at Vogue Festival, making sure to not speak ill of the look while doing it. "Now when I travel I just bring a small makeup case, and I'm content with that. I'm really into strobing now, so just highlighting the skin without using bronzer. I love contouring and I don't think I'd stop contouring my nose — I know people think I've had a nose job but it really is just makeup!"

Nontouring doesn't seem to be the opposite of contouring, but rather a more laid-back approach. Considering Kardashian is still going to be utilizing nose contouring, the trend isn't likely one that'll die anytime soon. It's just being switched around a little bit.

Since making a strobing tutorial for her website in summer 2015, Kim K has made it clear that highlighting techniques will forever be in her wheelhouse. It's just the bronzer that's going to be left aside. All in all, nontouring seems to be about enhancing the natural beauty of the face, instead of adding in shadows and shapes that aren't there naturally.

More shockingly is perhaps the fact that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star revealed to Vogue that she wore full makeup when giving birth to her first child, North West — but went without for the birth of newest Kardashian-West baby, Saint.

Personally, I'm glad that she seems to be abandoning the rigorousness of certain beauty practices in exchange for more relaxed approaches.

Continuing to discuss her journey with the nontouring trend, Kim K shared the contents of her "small makeup case." According to Jezebel, it includes "an eyelash curler, a mini Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in the perfect nude that she created for me, mascara — Charlotte’s Legendary Lashes is my favorite — my Joe Blasco foundation, a little MAC kabuki brush, a gold eye pencil by Kardashian Beauty, a small pot of powder, blush, and my Smashbox bronzer."

Hopefully this shift will lead to a more easygoing lifestyle for Kim K, especially since the reality star has already proven that she looks great without any makeup on. I for one am ecstatic to have one less product on my beauty shopping list.
