'The Da Vinci Code' To Be Adapted For Young Adults

by Cristina Arreola

Random House U.S. and Penguin Random House UK will jointly release a young adult adaptation of Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code , they announced in a press release on Wednesday.

The Da Vinci Code (Young Adult Adaptation) will be released in hardcover and ebook on September 13, 2016 in the United States. In the UK, it will be released in paperback and ebook on September 8, 2016. The new edition will feature a new cover (which you can see below), and will be abridged in length while maintaining the original plot for readers 13 and older.

Published in 2003, The Da Vinci Code has sold more than 82 million copies worldwide. The novel follows professor and symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptographer Sophie Neveu as they journey from Paris to London to unravel an elaborate conspiracy that dates back thousands of years.

In a press release, Dan Brown says he hopes younger audiences feel the "thrill of discovery" while reading his action-packed novel. He says:

"My parents were educators, so it's no surprise that I have a fascinating with history and research. In fact, if I weren't an author, I'm sure I would be a teacher myself. It is my sincere hope that this adaptation of The Da Vinci Code sparks in young adults the same thrill of discovery I feel while exploring hidden history and the mysteries of the world we live in."

Many young readers may already be familiar with Dan Brown's novel; it was, after all, adapted into a movie starring Tom Hanks in 2006. A movie adaptation of another of Brown's novels, Inferno, is coming to theaters in October. Hanks will reprise his role as Robert Langdon and Felicity Jones will co-star.
