'Endless Love's Stars & 8 Other Actors You Didn't Know Are British

This Valentine's day's release, the remake of the 1981 classic, Endless Love , stars Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde as the ill-fated star-crossed lovers. While it's quite obvious that these two are devastatingly attractive, what you might not know about them is that they're both British. That's right, both Pettyfer and Wilde gave it the ol' college try and did their American best in the film. This got us thinking, though. How many other British actors are masquerading (in our uninformed minds) as American citizens?!

Hugh Laurie

That’s right. The incorrigible, dastardly, hilariously witty Dr. House is in fact a subject of the Queen. Despite putting on his best unenthusiastic New York accent (he had us fooled) Laurie acted for years in the UK before traveling overseas to be everyone’s favorite moody doctor.

Andrew Lincoln

I know, I know. If it’s possible he just became even hotter. Although rugged Rick Grimes hails from Georgia, this zombie fighting guy actually hails from London. If you didn’t already know Lincoln’s true heritage, perhaps you recall a baby faced, brooding Mark from Love Actually?

Lauren Cohan

We’re sensing a theme here? The Walking Dead’s Maggie, Lauren Cohan, is sorta kinda an American-British hybrid. Cohan was born in the states and moved to England as a child. The actress explains her background by saying, ”I’m American by birth, and English by accent.” The accent is what matters right?!

Andrew Garfield

Okay, we have another (Brerican? Ameritish?) American born, English raised actor on our hands. Andrew Garfield was born in LA but moved to the UK when he was only three years old. A Brit for all intents and purposes. Again, accent is what counts, people!

Damian Lewis

Damian Lewis you have fooled us ALL. Everyone’s favorite? (RIP) faux- US Marines sergeant is actually not American at all. Lewis is a full blood Brit, and ironically was also cast as US paratrooper in Band of Brothers.

Matthew Rhys

It’s like they’re trying to trick us. Matthew Rhys comes from the isle of Wales even though he stars in a show called The Americans and plays a Russian spy. (We’re even getting confused now).

Portia DeRossi

…And an Aussie for good measure. We know, Australian and Great Britain (not the same) but we’re gonna counteract you on that and site the fact that Queen Elizabeth II is STILL THEIR QUEEN. Anyway, for reals, who the heck knew this Arrested Development beauty was anything other than American?
