Davina's Fate On 'The Originals' Is Uncertain

by Kelly Schremph

Just in case you thought Cami's death wasn't enough of a shock to the system, The Originals decided to deliver yet another surprise twist during last Friday's episode "No More Heartbreaks" by having Kol kill Davina in a fit of bloodlust. (Thanks a lot, Ancestors!) But is Davina really dead on The Originals ? And if so, is there still someway for her to be apart of the show? As of now the odds seem significantly in her favor, thanks to a recent interview Originals showrunner Michael Narducci had with Entertainment Weekly, who all but confirmed that Davina's story is far from over.

"We have seen the tenuous relationship that New Orleans witches have with the concept of mortality," Narducci explained. "Their dance upon this mortal coil is a little bit less tenuous than a mere mortal." And given all the times viewers have watched Bonnie Bennett die on The Vampire Diaries, only to find some loophole way to come back, I'd say we shouldn't be all that surprised if Davina falls into a similar pattern. But for the time being, yes, Davina is actually dead — as in no longer in the land of the living. However, considering that we're dealing with a supernatural show, Narducci wants to assure fans that it won't necessarily signal Danielle Campbell's departure.

Witches in New Orleans are incredibly powerful, and even though we saw Davina attacked and bitten by Kol and he drank her blood to the point where she died on screen — she is dead, physically dead — we know that there’s a whole mythology when it comes to the ancestors of witches and the spirits of witches and we’ve seen those witches come back before. You can imagine that Davina’s story is not yet over.

So while whether or not she'll get resurrected remains to be seen, at least we know that wherever her spirit ends up, she'll still play a vital part in the story. Heck, given how much body-swapping happens on the series, I wouldn't be all that surprised if Davina's spirit took up residence in a different form for the time being. Then the others would just have to keep her body safe until they figure out how to place her back into it.

Look, I'm not saying that's how the storyline is going to necessarily go down. That's just one possible option at the writers' disposal. But regardless of how this all plays out, it's comforting to know that we didn't permanently lose both Cami and Davina in the same night.
