Jimmy Kimmel Is Going To Be On 'Live!'

by Courtney Lindley

Well, well, well. What do we have here? Info regarding which great television personality will fill the shoes of Michael Strahan, after he leaves Live! for Good Morning America? Yes. Well, kind of. As per Disney's announcement Tuesday, Jimmy Kimmel will be the first guest to co-host Live! with Kelly Ripa, following Strahan's departure. While this is no way means Jimmy Kimmel will be the permanent replacement host, it's still great news. But how long do we have to wait for this magic to occur? As in, when will Jimmy Kimmel Be On Live!? It's much closer than you're probably expecting.

Kimmel will join Ripa on the ABC morning show May 16, only three days after Strahan's last day — a date that was just recently announced itself. Originally Strahan was all set to leave and make the transition from Live! to GMA in September, but, according to a statement sent out to Us Weekly, it was in everyone's best interest that he depart sooner. The statement read, "After speaking with Kelly and Michael, we have decided on a plan that best advantages both shows for the future. To that end, Michael’s last day on Live will be on Friday, May 13, which not only gives the show the chance to have a nice send-off for him during the May book, but to also immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host."

A new co-host like Jimmy Kimmel? If this goes well, Kimmel — the current host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, also on ABC — could be that person. Let that sink in for a second.

A variety of other guests will be filling in for Strahan until ABC decides to lock one down, similar to the way Regis Philbin's retirement was handled a few years back. It took 10 months before Strahan got the gig, so it's unclear how long the process will take this time around. All I know is that Jimmy Kimmel is a good place to start.
