Here's How To Listen To Prince Right Now

by Allie Funk

The death of iconic singer Prince has rocked the music world on April 21. TMZ was the first to report that Prince died six days after being rushed to the hospital for what was purportedly a medical emergency related to the flu, although the cause of his death is unknown. (The artist's rep confirmed the news to Bustle, saying "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57.") Fans around the world are devastated, especially the many people who have followed Prince's career for decades. And although many want to hear the star's music right away as they grieve his passing, unfortunately, Prince's music is not on Spotify.

The artist created a huge portfolio of musical work throughout his career, all of which fans can still treasure even though he is gone. But if you want to memorialize the singer by listening to his songs, you might have to search a bit. Prince is not on Spotify, so you won't be able to create a new playlist of his songs on there or listen to his albums in full. He actually had his music on Spotify until July 2015, at which point he requested that the company remove all of his tracks (he reportedly pulled all of his music from Spotify and other streaming services because of low royalty rates). So where can you go to hear his albums?

Currently, Prince's music is available exclusively on Tidal, Jay-Z's streaming service and on iTunes. When Prince removed his albums from Spotify, he stated that he was motivated to switch to Tidal because of his respect for Jay-Z, and his desire for the other artist's new platform to succeed. So although it's a bummer that you can't access Prince's music on Spotify, there are still other ways to get it . This way, you can pay tribute to the artist simply by appreciating the musical gifts he gave to the world over the past 57 years.
