Prince Was Working On A "Poetic" Memoir

Singer and music icon Prince was found dead at his home in Minnesota early Thursday morning. His publicist confirmed the news to Bustle, saying, "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer Prince Rogers Nelson has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57." Prince made his name in the music industry in the '70s, '80s, and '90s as an iconic pop star, and his latest album was released in 2015 (Hit n Run Phase Two). Here's a look at Prince's latest projects.

According to Rolling Stone, Prince was most recently working on an autobiography that was set to be released in the fall of 2017. The Beautiful Ones — described as poetic and unconventional — was the artist's latest project, and would feature his personal experiences and writing on "people, places and ideas that fired his imagination." The memoir, which the artist announced in mid-March, was set to be published by publishing house Spiegel & Grau. Prince noted that it would start from his first memory and hopefully progress all the way to his 2007 Super Bowl performance. However, at this stage, the future of this highly-anticipated project is unclear. Bustle has reached out to Spiegel & Grau for comment.

Prince is a legend in the music industry, with seven Grammys and 30 total nominations. Some of his other incredible achievements include selling over 80 million albums around the world (10 of which went platinum). Prince's career and presence more broadly were certainly unconventional and poetic — as his autobiography is described — and also unapologetic.

In a statement released by Chris Jackson, the Executive Editor of Spiegel & Grau, in regards to the announcement of Prince's memoir last month, he noted:

Prince is a towering figure in global culture and his music has been the soundtrack for untold numbers of people — including me — for more than a generation; his creative genius has provided the musical landscape of our lives.

The artist has had an immense impact on culture, music, and entertainment. He impacted both the lives of people who knew him personally and those who appreciated everything he accomplished. Prince, as an artist and inspiration to many, will surely be missed.
