'RHONY's Season 8 Trip Could Top Scary Island
When it comes to Real Housewives vacations, nothing tops Scary Island. (Seriously, we ranked them and Scary Island easily held the number one spot.) But it sounds like that's about to change, with the Real Housewives of New York City cast beating their own record. Ahead of the third episode of Season 8, OG RHONY Housewife Ramona Singer tells me of this season's vacation, "We do go on a group trip and I have to say this trip, more than any other one, will make your mouth... drop. Your jaw drop." And, yes, she really does pause for dramatic effect.
Of course, my mind immediately goes to Scary Island, the Season 3 trip where the cast visited The Virgin Islands. The trip involved, among other things, Kelly Bensimon recounting dreams of Bethenny Frankel killing her with a knife, Bethenny yelling at Kelly to "Go to sleep!", Ramona drinking pinot grigio while watching it all go down, and perhaps the best use of jelly beans in all of television history.
Basically, the idea of a trip somehow surpassing Scary Island is hard to believe. But Ramona makes it sound like the trip this season doesn't beat Scary Island by being the same and scarier, but because it's its own beast.
Asked straight out if it tops Scary Island (I needed to know!), Ramona says,
Yeah, because Scary Island was just one or two things that happened. I think, yeah, this is pretty, pretty... It tops Scary — It's different than Scary Island. It's more real. It'll make you mouth drop, but it definitely mirrors real life. And you know what they say: Life can be stranger than fiction.
"Life can be stranger than fiction?!" What does that even mean in the context of a reality show? The 10-year Bravo veteran doesn't share too much about exactly what happens on the trip — she also doesn't share the location; although fellow Housewife Dorinda Medley previously told Bustle the group is headed to both The Berkshires and Miami this season — but Ramona does say,
There’s some revelations that happen that have to be heard and seen to be believed ... It has to do with LuAnn [de Lesseps] and Tom [Thomas D'Agostino, LuAnn's fiancé] and Sonja and me and Bethenny. It’s just everything that happens is off the chart.
The fact that things go "off the chart" isn't exactly a surprise if you've seen the first two episodes of the season. The ladies really aren't holding back this time around, which is something Ramona is well aware of. She says of the group's dynamic this year,
We've all known each other for a very long time, and this is a season where no one is allowed to get away with anything. We call everyone on everything. We're not hiding anything, where sometimes in past seasons we would say, "Walk gently." There's no walking gently this time.
Now, we just need to come up with a name for this trip. It sure sounds like it's going to live on for seasons to come.
