Minka Kelly Reads A Letter To Hemingway
For any literature major — or lover of great literature, for that matter — it would be the thrill of a lifetime to get to write a letter to one of the great American authors. In Papa: Hemingway in Cuba , Minka Kelly's character discovers a letter addressed to the one and only Ernest Hemingway. Starring Giovanni Ribisi, Adrian Sparks, Joely Richardson, the film is about the true story of a journalist's relationship with the famed author.
While many films have tackled this particular literary legend, this film is rare in it's authenticity. The film follows journalist Denne Bart Petitclerc (Ribisi) and Hemingway (Sparks) as their relationship grows during the Cuban revolution. It was shot on location in Havana, and the filmmakers were able to go inside (and shoot) Hemingway's estate, the Finca Vigia. Papa: Hemingway in Cuba is the first Hollywood film to be shot in cuba since 1959.
Considering Hemingway himself was all about authenticity ("All you need to write is one true sentence," the man once said), I imagine he'd approve of having a film about him shot in the actual places he lived. Pretty cool.
