How Many 'GG' Episodes Will Sookie Be In?

by Tanya Ghahremani

Big news, Gilmore Girls fans. After months of speculation, rumors, and comments stating the contrary, Melissa McCarthy finally confirmed a Gilmore Girls revival return during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show Thursday. In other words, Sookie's back! But, now that her return is a definite thing, the question is no longer "will Sookie be in the Gilmore Girls revival," and is instead "how many episodes of the Gilmore Girls revival will Sookie be in?"

Unfortunately, apart from confirmation that Sookie will appear in the series, there isn't any official information about the circumstances of her appearance, or how many episodes of the series she will be involved in. However, by considering that the show is only set to shoot for roughly another month (creator Amy Sherman-Palladino remarked "we’re here until May 10" in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, indicating what's presumably the final day of filming), I can't imagine it'll be any more than one episode. Additionally, Sherman-Palladino revealed to EW that the scene she had in mind for McCarthy could be filmed within two hours — "I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours," — so, unless plans have changed, it's likely no more than a cameo appearance.

Of course, this doesn't make the news about Sookie joining the revival any less exciting. After months of back and forth about whether or not McCarthy and Sherman-Palladino could figure something out that would work with both The Boss' actor's schedule and the Gilmore Girls revival's shooting schedule, it's a relief to hear that something is finally happening. The Gilmore Girls revival was never going to be complete without a Sookie appearance of some sort — even if it's just a cameo. I think I speak for all fans when I say that no matter how small the part, it's just amazing to have Sookie back at all.

Yay, Sookie!
