While most people expected The Walking Dead to have Negan kill one of the main characters in the Season 6 finale, what wasn't expected was the series not to show us who he actually killed. In a thoroughly disappointing turn, we'll have to wait until The Walking Dead comes back in Oct. to know who was Negan's victim, but could Carl have been the one Negan killed? With 11 people in Negan's death lineup (12 counting Maggie's baby ... eeeeee, too soon?), there are plenty of characters to worry about. Yet, something Negan said right before he started beating a beloved character to death with his baseball bat Lucille makes it seem like Carl will still be alive come Season 7.
After lining up Carl, Rick, Michonne, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, Abraham, Eugene, Rosita, Sasha, and Aaron, Negan told them he would have to kill at least one of them for murdering so many of his people during Rick's raid on the Saviors' compound. Negan antagonized Rick and then focused his attentions on Carl, realizing he was Rick's son. (Who knew they had such a striking father-son resemblance?) However, knowing that Negan has a soft spot for Carl in the comics made me feel like Negan wouldn't kill the youngest member of the crew. And Negan pretty much confirmed that theory himself when he said (moments before beating an unknown character to death): "Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy’s other eye out and feed it to his father."
Considering that Negan referenced Carl — and Rick! — right before the beating, I'm confident that the Grimes men will be left standing (errrrr, kneeling) when the show reveals who actually died. Of course, we won't know for sure for months, but Carl actor Chandler Riggs has some consolation for you via Twitter:
So while you are emotionally troubled this summer pondering who Negan killed, know that the cast is having it even worse not knowing if they were the victim ... and if they will have a job next season.
