The Craziest Outfits In MTV Movie Award History
Hollywood starlets walking the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards have made some pretty quirky and wild fashion choices over the years. That's putting it nicely, considering Lil Kim's body glitter and pastie usage rate, but fortunately that era died with the early 2000s. Looking back at it all, fashion has gotten to where it is today because of these misgivings and misfortunes, most of which were on full view at this awards show every year. Red carpets are certainly better for all of the terrifying T-shirts under spaghetti straps and pageboy caps they saw back in the day.
A lot of the scariest outfits were trendy at the time, but some could just never ever be considered totally normal, like 48-year-old actress Bai Ling's giant dragon top from the 2015 MTV Movie Award. When you decide to wear a giant dragon that's gotta be an interesting conversation with your publicist and designer, right? Instead of trying to make sense of these choices, I will try to learn from them instead. Hopefully, in this case at least, history will not repeat itself.
So, without further ado, here is a look back at some of the wildest outfits in the history of the MTV Movie Awards to date. Try to stay clear of these looks for a while, Bustle readers.
1. Bai Ling's Khaleesi Look
Lost actress Bai Ling wore a giant 3D dragon to the 2015 MTV Movie Awards to show us all who the real mother of dragons was. It doesn't really get much crazier than this, right?
2. Halle Berry's Beach Bunny Look
Halle Berry's classic beach bunny outfit was more skin than dress by any means, but hey, it was the early 2000s and normal fashion rules did not apply.
3. Katy Perry's Little Blue Wig
I actually loved this color "Peacock" blue on Perry, but the world freaked out. Now, wigs are more socially acceptable and starlets (*ahem* Kylie Jenner) have found a way to make them look flawless.
4. Beyoncé's "50 Shades Of Bey" Look
This ribbon corset dress with the Angelina leg was way ahead of its time. However, the color made me really double take. Queen B looks good in everything.
5. Paris Hilton's Music Video Look
Honestly, there are no words. This was just a normal Sunday night for young Paris Hilton. The really crazy thing was that this color wasn't her signature pink.
6. Xtina's Dirrty Lady Marmalade Look
The Dirrty Christina Aguilera was not my favorite, because I preferred the "Genie in a Bottle"-era. However, Lady Marmalade was one of my favorite music videos so I don't totally hate this look.
7. Sacha Baron Cohen's Brüno
Sacha Baron Cohen perfected his Brüno impression in a leopard body suit. What can I say?
8. The Black Keys Snuggy Look
The Black Keys pretty much showed up in light blue snuggies, and I don't blame them.
9. Macklemore's Bullfighting Look
Macklemore could either fly away or bull fight in Spain with this crazy culturally appropriating cape.
10. Iggy Azalea's Confusing Look
What are they? They look like those prison cuffs they put on people's ankles, but attached to platform wedges. The world may never know.
11. Pink's Gaga Look
Legendary singer Pink wore a leather blue and chartreuse two piece that showed off her abs but was more Gaga-esque than 2001 was ready for.
12. Will Ferrell's Moneyball Look
Will Ferrell's suit was literally made of money.
13. Hana Mae Lee's Ashtray Look
Pitch Perfect actress Hana Mae Lee wore an actual cigarette butt hat and still came home with an award.
14. Lucy Walsh's Pom Pom Look
Lucy Walsh is a two-toned belted pom pom, skein of yarn, or loofa — I can't really make up my mind but I don't know what she had in mind either.
15. Lindsay Lohan's Metallic Look
Lindsay Lohan is like a two-toned NYE ball in this ombre silver '70s jumpsuit.
16. Ke$ha's Coachella Look
Ke$ha showed us concert goals for sure, but could have been a little bit dressier for a red carpet event.
17. Samaire Armstrong's O.C. Look
Samaire Armstrong's 2004 Movie Awards outfit is made up of cute pieces, but it looks like it was put together in the dark.
18. Julia Stiles's Workout Look
Did Julia Stiles just come from a Mets game? I get that this is a reference to Save The Last Dance, but she should have left the dance outfits in the movie.
