MacKenzie Left 'Idol' On A HIgh Note

by Jessica Molinari

The day I've been dreading on American Idol has finally come — MacKenzie Bourg has been eliminated from the Season 15 competition. While his chances of taking the title were slim from the start, he's proven to be the dark horse by continuing to advance week after week thanks to his charm and Ed Sheeran-like talent. It was becoming more and more possible for him to take the final Idol title — until tonight. Bourg was eliminated from the Top Four, but something tells me his music career isn't over yet. With a talent like his, Bourg will be back on the music scene in no time.

Bourg's days on Idol were numbered — , but at least he went out on a high note. His hometown performance of "Hallelujah" was beautifully powerful and showed off a softer side of his talent. Even the judges noticed his transformation and rewarded him with high remarks. There couldn't have been a better way for Bourg to end his Idol career.

What may be the absolute best part of how he went out, though, was how he handled it. As soon as Bourg heard his name announced in the bottom two with La'Porsha Renae, he knew his fate was sealed. He started offering to leave the competition because he believed in Renae so much. It was a touching moment that just goes to show how humble and downright awesome Bourg really is.

While his days on Idol are over, something tells me Bourg's journey is just getting started. Whether he finds a career in songwriting, performing, or both, the 23-year-old has a talent that can't be wasted. Hey, some of the most successful Idol's are contestants who didn't even make it to the Top 2 (I'm looking at you, Chris Daughtry). Bourg did all that he could on Idol, but now it's time for him to explore bigger opportunities. Watch out, America, because this isn't the last you'll be seeing of Bourg.
