'Game Of Thrones' Season 6 Will Be Full Of Tragedy

by Kelly Schremph

There may still be a few weeks left to go until the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere, but before that joyous day arrives, there are still a bevy of teasers and spoilers to feast their eyes upon in the meantime. I mean, the action-packed trailer alone is enough to ignite the spark of a thousand Game of Thrones Season 6 theories and make our ever-present curiosity grow in excess by the day. But as exciting as I'm sure the season will undoubtedly prove to be, it's also important to prepare ourselves for the possible tragedies that Game of Thrones Season 6 has in store for us diehard obsessors. Because while yes, this series knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats, it also knows how to smash our hearts into a thousand tiny little pieces in one fell swoop. (Anyone recall that little incident known as the Red Wedding?)

Am I excited for Thrones to return? Absolutely. But, at the same time, I'm also downright terrified to see what fate as store for these beloved (and sometimes not so beloved) characters. So I figure that the best course of action is to try our best to emotionally prepare ourselves for any kind of travesties that could come our way this year, which is why I've taken the liberty of rounding up some of my deepest and darkest fears that could come to fruition during the sixth installment. Let's pray to the gods, both old and new, that none of these things ever comes to pass. But if they do, at least we'll be forewarned?

1. Jon Snow Could Die... Again

If the trailers and promos are any indication, then our favorite Lord Commander is, in fact, dead. For now. But let's say that our wildest dreams come true and he actually does return to the land of the living. There's always the lingering chance that he'll find himself in danger again or, even worse, discover this his resurrection is only a temporary thing. Either way, Jon Snow still has the power to break our hearts once more.

2. Ramsay Could Survive

Can you imagine living in a world where Ramsay Bolton — the ultimate jerk of Westeros — survives through all this bloodshed and torment? Would the writers really make such an unfair and unjust plot decision where evil wins out and all men (except Ramsay) must die? Honestly, I wouldn't put it past them.

3. Tyrion Will Face Mortal Peril

Face being the operative word here since it's his face we see most prominently displayed in the Hall of Faces teaser shown above. This may very well be the season where his Lannister luck and charm runs out.

4. Sansa Gets Recaptured By The Boltons

I highly doubt this will happen, mostly because Sophie Turner, who plays the eldest Stark daughter, recently told Entertainment Weekly that "Sansa’s coming into her own and standing up for herself" in Season 6. So I'm hoping that means she'll finally get some revenge on her horrible husband. But if not, then we should be prepared ourselves for what would most likely be a very unpleasant martial reunion. (*cringes*)

5. The R + L = J Theory Is Disproven

After so many years of speculating, imagine our disappointment if it turns out that Jon Snow isn't actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark as we've long suspected. I mean, what a waste of a potentially amazing storyline that would be. It's enough to put all other tragedies to shame. Though, I'm optimistic that this won't be case, considering we're going to be flashing back to the Tower of Joy — the place where Ned Stark made a secret promise to his sister Lyanna moments before she died.

6. Daenerys Is Treated Poorly By The Dothraki

Violence toward women has become a somewhat touchy and unfortunate theme for the series, so as much as I hate the idea of Dany getting tortured or raped or both, it'd be naive to completely rule the possibility out, especially if the Dothraki don't approve of what she's been up to since Khal Drogo's death.

7. Brienne & Jaime Will Share Little Screen Time Together

Because a season without these two teaming up is a season wasted in my book.

8. Jorah Will Succumb To His Greyscale Condition

Sure, he's busy searching for Dany right now, but what if the side effects of his condition start to get worse? Who will he hurt under its scale-y influence and, perhaps more importantly, who will he end up infecting?

9. The White Walkers Will Take Bran Captive

I'd like to think that this is just one of Bran's visions, given that he's clearly standing on his own in the trailer. But what if it's not? What if he somehow comes face-to-face with the Night's King? Jon managed to catch a glimpse of him last season at the end of "Hardhome." Maybe Bran will get a much closer look at what the White Walkers have in store for the people of Westeros.

So, basically, as we head into Season 6 there's one thing you should always keep in mind: be afraid. Be very afraid.
