A lot of shows can feel extremely weighed down when it feels like they're adding too many regular characters, but Game of Thrones manages to get it right each time. Like in this instance: According to EW, Game of Thrones has upgraded guest star Nathalie Emmanuel to series regular, after she appeared as the excellent character Missandei during the latter half of Daenerys' season three plot last year. If you don't recall: She was a former slave of Astapor, where she was mistreated and oppressed until Daenerys comes through town and frees her — along with the entire Unsullied army of the city. After the city is taken down, the Unsullied choose, of their own accord, to follow Daenerys into battle, and Missandei sticks with her as a handmaiden/BFF of sorts. It's really sweet.
According to Wetpaint, she won't actually be a regular until season five (should the show get renewed — ha, who am I kidding, of course it's getting renewed), but it does bode well for her involvement in season four. In addition to Emmanuel, Michel Huisman is expected to be upgraded to a series regular as well for his role as Daario Naharis in the series.
Game of Thrones will return for season four on April 6.
