Just like the promo promised, the How To Get Away With Murder Season 2 finale saw the body count rise by two, though, I don’t think anyone could've guessed who those unlucky characters would turn out to be. Not only did Wallace Mahoney — Wes' possible biological father — get shot and killed by an unknown assailant, but it looks as though Caleb committed suicide after it was revealed that he was the one who had murdered his parents. Moments after the truth came bubbling to the surface, the camera cut to a trail of blood leading to a bathtub, where it looked as though Caleb had slit his wrists in order to avoid getting sent to jail. But, is that really how it all went down?
If this year's midseason finale taught anything it's that nothing is ever as it seems on this show. I mean, when we saw Annalise bleeding out on the Hapstall mansion floor, the thought never occurred to fans that she had actually asked to be shot. (Granted, she would've preferred it to have been in the leg rather than stomach, but I guess beggars can't be choosers?) What I'm getting at here is that looks can be deceiving, so while it may look like Caleb killed himself, that doesn't necessarily make it the truth. Maybe someone found out what he had done and decided to finish him off, knowing they could easily make it look like a suicide. Maybe he isn't actually the Hapstall parents' murderer and the real murderer killed him to make him look guilty so the police would close the case.
Could I be overthinking this? Possibly. But, at the time there's no limit to what this show will attempt to do. Plus, it's called How To Get Away With Murder, not How To Get Away With Offing Yourself, right? And covering up a murder with a suicide feels right within this series' wheelhouse. I suppose only time will tell...
