As a native New Jerseyan, I couldn't have been more excited in 2009 when there was an entire MTV series about my home state. Like the show's stars, I've spent plenty of time in Seaside Heights. Granted, Jersey Shore emphasized its worst stereotypes (and a majority of the cast wasn't even actually from there), but it was ridiculously entertaining nevertheless. That's why I felt a huge wave of nostalgia when seeing some news this week: Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro may be back together. It felt like 2014 all over again, which was the last time the on-again, off-again couple was reportedly dating. Although it'd be very full-circle for them to reunite, I have one reaction — "RAHHHN, STAHHHHHP." I strongly believe these two should not get back together. Why? Their frequent fighting brings out the worst in each other.
Of course, I'm not trying to stand in the way of true love, but Sammi and Ronnie are like the guido version of Jelena and I just can't ship them anymore. (Yes, I just compared them to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.) They constantly got together, broke up, and repeated the cycle again and again. When that's the pattern, it's not a good one. I know, you can't help if you fall in love at the Jersey Shore, but gosh, these two have a history of some pretty awful arguments. Remember the time that Sammi punched Ron in the face? Violence is never OK, ever. The fact that their on-camera fights — often littered with F-bombs and tears — got so heated is a major red flag.
Over the course of the show's six seasons, the two broke up and made up more times than I can count. But thanks to Vulture's recap of the highs and lows of Sammi and Ronnie's relationship, it's easy to remember the vicious cycle. There's the time that Ronnie cheats on Sammi in the second season, so JWoww and Snooki leave her an anonymous note. Let's not forget the time he refers to her as the C-word. And what about all the instances where she said she "f*cking hates" him? Not the best happily-ever-after love story. Even if you type "Ronnie and Sammi Jersey Shore fight" on YouTube as a way to refresh your memory of how bad it got, there are far too many options to pick from; that shows how often they fought.
Considering Jersey Shore ended in 2012, it's been awhile since fans have seen the pair on camera. It's entirely possible that they've matured more in the meantime. They both attended JWoww's wedding in October 2015 and seemed perfectly civil. It doesn't look like they hate each other's guts and I highly doubt they'd fight at a friend's wedding.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to these two being friendly or back in each other's lives in some capacity. But history has a way of repeating itself, and all the instances of these two getting back together and breaking up proves their romantic relationship can become incredibly toxic. So let's leave the past in the past and just STAHHHHHP trying to make this happen.
On the off chance that you're still not convinced, you can consult the 35-second clip below. You'll be reminded instantly why this relationship just doesn't work.
