Spring was always my least favorite season — rainy, muddy, and gloomy. That all changed when I moved to Washington, D.C., home of the Cherry Blossom Festival. For one magical spring week, the entire city was blanketed in pink petals. I have since moved again, to the decidedly un-pink city of Chicago, so when I heard that Starbucks was releasing a blossom-themed drink, I immediately shrieked "When can I get the Starbucks Cherry Blossom Frappuccino?" The answer, in keeping with the fleeting cherry blossoms, is pretty much, "Right now or not at all."
OK, fine; that's not entirely true. The Starbucks Cherry Blossom Frappuccino is available today, March 15, through March 20, the official first day of spring. And then it is no longer. And while I haven't had a chance to try one myself (I've been here! Writing this article!), I honestly cannot wait because it sounds amazing. Strawberries and creme frap! White chocolate and matcha swirl! It looks like a Dr. Seuss drink and probably tastes like heaven!
In addition to syncing up with the first day of spring, the Cherry Blossom Frappuccino is also coinciding with D.C.'s Cherry Blossom Festival; peak bloom for those beautiful trees begins on March 18 this year and runs until March 23. In that very brief period of time, thousands of humans will descend upon our nation's capital to look upon the trees that will, in a week's time, look exactly like every other boring, non-cherry blossom tree. Just like your Starbucks Frappuccino, while still delicious, will no longer have a white chocolate and matcha swirl. Such is life, my friends. We're captives on a carousel of time.
