Where Are The Stars Of ‘She’s The Man’ Today?
Are you ready to feel super old? It’s been 10 years since Amanda Bynes’ best movie ever hit the theaters. She’s The Man was released in 2006 and has pretty much become a classic for all those who were in high school at the time of its release. Before her rough patch, Amanda Bynes was a national treasure and She’s The Man proved just that. The first time we saw She’s The Man was also the first time we really met (and fell in love with) Channing Tatum. That’s right, before Step Up and Magic Mike, he went shirtless for Amanda Bynes. If you haven’t seen She’s The Man, you’re seriously missing out.
She’s The Man was based off the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night. In the movie Viola wants to play soccer, but the girls team at her school was cut. She decides to pretend to be her twin brother, Sebastian, at his new school while he was in London and join the soccer team to prove she could play on the guys team. However, she falls in love with her roommate Duke, who’s in love with Olivia, who falls in love with Viola dressed as Sebastian. It’s magical.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of She’s The Man, we decided to see what all our favorite actors from the film are up to these days.
1. Amanda Bynes
Amanda Bynes has gone through a lot since She’s The Man hit theaters. After Easy A came out in 2010 the actress announced she was retiring from acting. She then un-retired and deleted her Twitter.
In 2012 she was arrested for driving under the influence, and allegedly accused of two hit-and-run accidents in California. After pleading not guilty she moved to New York where more trouble ensued. Early in 2013, she famously tweeted that she wanted Drake to “murder [her] vagina.” She got both sides of her cheek pierced and started wearing her now-famous long blonde wig. She was arrested in May for allegedly tossing a bong out her apartment window and taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
By March 2014 the actress was attending FIDM in Los Angeles and had seemingly sorted things out. However by September she was arrested for driving under the influence again. She was put on a 5150 hold in October and was allegedly held at a psych facility for over a month. Her mom was granted conservatorship. After a lot of back and forth her mom transferred her conservatorship to a mental health professional.
In 2015 things were fairly quiet with Amanda. She tweeted here and there, but no more rants. Most recently she posted a photo of herself with short blonde hair.
2. Channing Tatum
Most people know everything about Channing Tatum’s life post-She’s The Man. Right after the movie, he went on to film Step Up where he met his future wife, Jenna Dewan. He starred in Public Enemies, G.I. Joe, Dear John, The Vow, 21 Jump Street, Magic Mike, Foxcatcher, 22 Jump Street and so many more.
He wed Jenna Dewan in 2009 and the couple welcomed a baby girl, Everly, in 2013. Most recently he was in Hail, Caesar and he’s working on Gambit and 23 Jump Street.
3. Laura Ramsey
Laura Ramsey, who played Olivia in the film, went on to do some films including The Covenant, The Ruins, Middle Men and Are You Here. You most recently saw her in the VH1 show Hindsight , which was actually a fun show. Unfortunately it didn’t make it past season one. It was about a girl on her wedding night who gets transported back to her first wedding in the '90s and runs out on her husband. So good, right? There’s no news on what she’s doing after the show was canceled. Hopefully some good stuff!
4. Vinnie Jones
Vinnie Jones was famous long before he played the mean coach in She’s The Man. He has been in so many things since the show ended, I’m not sure how he has time for a life. Some of his acting credits since 2006 include X-Men: The Last Stand, Year One, Escape Plan and guest starring roles on Elementary, Arrow, Psych and The Cape.
He’s currently starring as Gareth on Galavant and someone working two other films simultaneously. Like I said, Vinnie Jones is a busy man. In 2013 he revealed that both he and his wife were battling melanoma. Jones beat the cancer in 2014 and Daily Mail reported in December that his wife was also clear.
5. David Cross
David Cross was pretty famous before he took on the role of the dean of Illyria, known best for his role as Tobia Fünke in Arrested Development . He reprised the role in the Netflix reboot in 2013. On top of that, he voiced Crane in all the Kung Fu Panda movies and was in Year One, Modern Family, Obvious Child, Pitch Perfect 2 and many more.
In 2012, David Cross and Amber Tamblyn tied the knot.
6. Julie Hagerty
After She’s The Man, Julie Hagerty went on to play Hayley in Confession of a Shopaholic . She guest starred in various TV shows including New Girl, Happy Endings, CSI, Wilfred and Family Guy.
7. Robert Hoffman
Viola’s ex-boyfriend in the film found success on Nick Cannon’s show Wild ’N Out on MTV. He played various characters in 48 episodes over two years. In 2014, he was the host of a show called Fake Off, which I believe is about dancing, but the description is a bit vague. He was a host till 2015. He also guest starred on shows including Greek, 90210, The Night Shift, Drop Dead Diva and Grey’s Anatomy.
He’s got a movie coming out called Amateur Night, which also stars Jason Biggs and Ashley Tisdale. Also…the dude can dance. His whole Instagram feed is filled with some pretty sweet dance videos.
8. Alexandra Breckenridge
Alexandra Breckenridge blew my mind because I remember Monique so well, but I totally didn’t make the connection until now. Most recently Alexandra was on The Walking Dead . She played Jessie Anderson, which is a major role considering TWD is one of the most popular shows on TV at the moment.
Before that Alexandra was in two separate seasons of American Horror Story, True Blood, Life Unexpected and Dirt. Not to mention since 2005 she's been a voice on Family Guy for 58 episodes.
9. Amanda Crew
Amanda Crew played one of Viola’s soccer pals, in case you forgot. Like everyone else she went on to do some pretty cool stuff. Her roles include Sex Drive, The Haunting in Connecticut, Charlie St. Cloud, Jobs and Age of Adaline. She also plays Monica on Silicon Valley ! She’s currently in the middle of three projects.
On top of her successful acting career, Amanda has a website called frankbefrank.com where she interviews other celebrities. It’s fairly new, but a cool site.
10. Jessica Lucas
Jessica Lucas played Viola’s other friend. Her roles after the movie include Cloverfield, 90210, Melrose Place, Friends with Benefits (the TV show), That Awkward Moment, Pompeii and for her biggest role, Gotham. She plays Tabitha Galavant on the hit Fox show. Seriously, everyone from this movie went on to do bigger and better things.
She recently went to see Hamilton . I am telling you this because of how incredibly jealous I am.
11. James Snyder
While Malcolm has been a guest star in various shows, he took a different route. In 2008 he put out a solo album called L.A. Curse. After that he started getting into the theater scene. He played Wade “Cry-Baby” Walker in Cry-Baby at the La Jolla Playhouse and on Broadway. He then starred alongside Idina Menzel in her Broadway show If/Then between 2014-2016, which was awesome in case you never got the chance to see it!
Currently you can see him in Pasadena in Casa Valentina.
12. James Kirk
Now onto Sebastian. He didn’t do too many recognizable stuff after the movie. His credits include Sanctuary, The Seamstress, Web of Desire, Frankie & Alice, Supernatural, LoliRock, Family for Christmas, Reluctant Witness, Love on the Sidelines and he’s doing another TV movie called Newlywed and Dead . I hope that’s a Lifetime movie…
13. Emily Perkins
Eunice! Emily Perkins hasn’t acted since 2014, according to her IMDB page, but before she went off the map she was in Juno, Another Cinderella Story, Hiccups, Supernatural and Extraterrestrial.
14. Brandon Jay McLaren
After declaring his love for Eunice, Toby stayed in the acting world and landed several TV shows. He’s currently working on a show called Slasher and a TV movie called The Jury. Prior to that you can find him on Chicago Fire, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Graceland, Falling Skies, The Killing, and Being Erica.
15. Clifton MaCabe Murray
Duke Orsino’s other pal in the movie seems to have gotten out of the acting world in 2009, but went on to join a Canadian singing group called The Tenors. So you can find him singing these days.
In 2015 he married a gorgeous woman named Rachel, so congrats to them!
16. Jonathan Sadowski
Last, but certainly not least we have Paul, the hairstylist and friend that turns Viola into her brother. Have you been watching ABC Family (Freeform) recently? Jonathan has been on Young & Hungry as Josh Kaminski for a couple years now! In addition to that, after She’s The Man he was in $#*! My Dad Says, Chernobyl Diaries, Friday the 12th, Live Free or Die Hard and more.
Happy 10th anniversary She’s The Man!
