'Star Wars' Wins Favorite Movie At The KCAs

by Caitlin Flynn

It may have been snubbed by the Oscars and the Golden Globes, but the children have spoken and Star Wars: The Force Awakens won Favorite Movie at the Kids' Choice Awards. Plus, Blake Shelton opened the evening's ceremony with a Star Wars themed sketch — so all in all, the force was definitely with Star Wars fans at the KCAs. In the Favorite Movie category it beat out stiff competition including Jurassic World, Cinderella, Avengers, and The Hunger Games, which illustrates that the franchise has built a strong fanbase amongst youngsters. Keke Palmer and John Stamos presented the award and they kicked off by throwing buckets of popcorn into the crowd. (The KCAs wouldn't be complete with slime and food being thrown all over the place.) When Palmer and Stamos announced Star Wars as the winner, Chewbacca and BB-8 accepted the Kids' Choice Award on behalf of their castmates.

Their acceptance speech was short and sweet because, well, words aren't exactly their strong suit. But, that didn't stop the audience from going wild when they stepped out onstage — and it was totally adorable to see the newest generation of Star Wars fans cheer for two of the movie's MVPs. And, they were equally excited about the evening's opening sequence which was inspired by the movies:

Fans of all ages took to social media to express their excitement that at least one awards show gave Star Wars the recognition it deserves:

Congratulations to Chewbacca, BB-8, and all the cast and crew members who made the movie amazing. May the slime be with them.
