The 2016 Emmy Awards Host Has Been Announced
Ah, the Emmys. One of the few award shows considerate enough to take place at a reasonable time and date for the rest of the world. The 2016 Emmy Awards has a host, and it's about time we all get excited, because that host is Jimmy Kimmel. Need I say more? Although we won't be watching Amy Poehler try again to get the recognition that she deserves for her amazing turn as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation, the Emmys this year still have a lot to offer in terms of recognizing television excellence — because there's a lot of excellence to be recognized come Sunday, September 18.
The 2016 Emmys won't be the first time that Kimmel has hosted the program; he famously hosted the last time the show was broadcast on ABC, back in 2012, to great reviews. The reviews were so great that Kimmel has been rumored to be in talks to host the Emmys for quite some time before Monday morning's official announcement, and the lack of the element of surprise here in no way takes away from my delight. After all, Kimmel is the face of Jimmy Kimmel Live! so, even if he had never hosted the Emmys before, we could all rest assured that the man knows how to work an audience.
If there's one thing to take away from Kimmel's tweet announcing the news, it's that we are all in for an amazing show — and that Kimmel is adorably polite and several months early in wishing us all a happy summer. Are you ready for the Emmys? Because I officially am.
