'Legends Of Tomorrow' Channeled 'Star Trek'

by Kelly Schremph

What's better than an action-packed TV show, you might ask? One that isn't afraid to make amazing pop culture references, of course. And thankfully, Legends of Tomorrow continuously manages to pull off both with ease. During Thursday night's episode "Marooned," the Legends were forced to face off against time pirates, but if you can imagine, that wasn't even the highlight of the evening. Legends of Tomorrow made multiple Star Trek jokes that perfectly paralleled both space-centric shows in the best way possible.

Not that I blame the writers for making this connection. In fact, I'm grateful that they did. I mean, it's just too good to resist, to be honest. First, it started off with little comparisons, like when Ray attempted to portray the legendary Captain Kirk. However, Kendra insisted that he's more of a Captain Jean-Luc Picard type, which is by means an insult in any way. (You can't go wrong with Patrick Stewart, am I right?) And from there, the references just kept on coming. Professor Martin Stein even busted out the line, "Great Scott!" at one point as well and it was pretty much the greatest thing ever.

Granted, if you're not a Star Trek fan then this probably meant very little to you, but I personally refuse to believe that such people exist in the world, so forget I even said anything on the subject. And as for you Star Wars fans, don't feel too left out because there were definitely a few mentions of Han Solo, etc. as well. (Sorry, Doctor Who fans, but there's always next week!) But to be quite honest, I don't what pop culture reference they're making as long as they're making it. Well done, writers. Keep it coming!
