Right now, there's no celebrity couple that better represents relationship goals than John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. From reaction faces at award shows to stances on politics, these parents-to-be are outspoken and awesome. Plus, was anything sweeter than when Legend bought Teigen Girl Scout Cookies during the Oscars? I think not. She already revealed why she is choosing to have a daughter, but she's keeping the baby name options a secret — at least for now. In an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Teigen revealed she asked Barack Obama for baby-naming advice. If you're going to get approval from anyone, it might as well be the head of the entire country. She said,
I asked Barack — we're, like, very first-name basis. I asked President Obama if he liked one of our name choices and he said he did. But then I realized I should have came up with two so he could pick one because, you know, you've got to be nice about it if you give someone a name.
How amazing is that? Unfortunately, Legend doesn't love the name, which is why she went to the President in the first place. The Sports Illustrated model explained,
I wanted to ask him because John isn't sold on the name so I figured if [Obama] liked it, then John would be sold on it. He says it's too Hollywood.
Well, at least Obama is on board! This makes me think the name is a bit out there, but nothing too outrageous. I would like to think the POTUS has some George Washington in him, as in he "cannot tell a lie" and his feedback is genuine. Apparently Colbert approves too — she whispered the possible name in his ear during the show. He immediately responded, "I love that!"
Here are my best guesses at what the Teigen wants to name her baby, based on the rather vague context clues above.
1. Marilyn
Perhaps Teigen wants to name her baby after one of the most famous models. Considering she works in the same industry, this could make sense. Then again, the name is automatically associated with Marilyn Monroe, so Legend could think it's overrated.
2. Cayenne
Alright, so I don't necessarily know if she'd name her daughter after a spice. But considering she and Legend both love cooking, I'm not ruling it out. It would sound similar to "Diane," but be a bit more spicy (considering it's literally a type of pepper). Pretty fitting for Teigen's sassy personality, right? Maybe the "too Hollywood" objection here was because it sounds like other celebs who named their babies after food. (Ahem, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.)
3. Madonna
Another well-known celebrity that could be baby-name material? None other than Madonna. She's a singing legend and one of the few people in Hollywood who could pull off just a first name. With a moniker like that, the kid is bound to be a star.
4. Something With A "P"
The Legends have three dogs — Puddy, Pippa, and Penny. Are you sensing a pattern? Yup, all of their names start with "P." They could very well continue that trend with their human baby too. Penelope? Patricia? Paprika?
If I had to guess, maybe this counts as "too Hollywood," because it feels a bit Kardashian to have an entire family all start their names with the same letter.
5. Belle
Since Teigen loves Taco Bell, maybe she wanted to do a tribute to her favorite restaurant. Legend's objection could be because it'd seem like they're naming her after a Disney princess — or you know, the fast food restaurant. It's a long shot, but probably my favorite on the list.
6. Delushious
"So Delushious" is the name of her cooking blog. She has it copyrighted and everything. She could let the brand live on through her little girl's name. It's definitely a unique spelling.
7. Hollywood
Meta, huh? What if in trying to share the explanation for why Legend doesn't like the name, she could have been hinting at the answer all along — Hollywood. Or maybe she wants to make her first name Holly, middle name Wood, and then her full name would be Holly Wood Legend.
Some of these guesses may be a little extreme, but with celebrities you never know! Only time will tell, but it's pretty fun to ponder the possibilities in the meantime.
