How To Get Your Paws On The' Zootopia' Soundtrack

by Allie Funk

Disney's latest animated feature Zootopia has been highly anticipated, and for good reason. The upcoming film, which takes place in an animal-run civilization, features the voice talents of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman as the two main protagonists. Other stars who voice characters in the film include Octavia Spencer, J.K Simmons, Bonnie Hunt, and Shakira, among others. And the singer actually contributed her vocals to more than just the narrative; she has a song on the soundtrack, too. If you're a fan, you may be wondering where to get the Zootopia soundtrack. The bad news is that you'll have to wait a hot minute to snag it, but the good news is that you don't have to travel to an animal metropolis to do so.

The soundtrack's official release date is March 4, same as the film. On that date, the album will be available for purchase on all digital retailers. But you can actually pre-order the Zootopia soundtrack on Amazon now, and you can preview the individual tracks on iTunes and other sites. Additionally, the single by Shakira is actually already available for purchase everywhere, so you can download that now to tide you over until the rest of the album drops. In the meantime, here are a few more bits of info about the Zootopia soundtrack.

It Features The Score From The Film

The original motion picture soundtrack actually includes the full score from the movie. The composer behind the Zootopia score is Michael Giacchino, whose past works include the scores for such films as The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Jurassic World, and Up (for which he won an Academy Award). So you know that the music in the film has been created by skilled hands.

It Took An Orchestra To Create The Unique Soundtrack

Giacchino worked with an 80-piece orchestra in order to create a heterogenous soundtrack that was influenced by many different genres. ComingSoon.net quoted Giacchino as saying, "There are flavors of world music sprinkled in everywhere." A quick preview of the album confirms this: jazzy sections heavy with high-energy brass and woodwind, Calypso-inspired melodies with lots of percussion, slow moments with sentimental strings, and much more.

Did I Mention Shakira?

Shakira voices a pop star named Gazelle, and so it's actually her character that sings the soundtrack's single "Try Everything" in the narrative of the film. The track was co-written by Sia and production team Stargate.

The Zootopia soundtrack appears so far to be really creative and diverse, which makes sense when you consider the movie that it was created for. You can get your paws on the album super soon, and enjoy the musical ride through the world of Zootopia.
