It may not have won any awards yet, but that didn't stop Star Wars from taking the 2016 Oscars stage. You might be thinking that certain cast members were there to present a special effects award, or something else relating to the movie. You might also be thinking that by cast members, I'm referring to someone like Daisy Ridley or John Boyega. You'd be wrong on both accounts. Star Wars droids C-3PO, R2-D2, & BB-8, made an Oscars appearance that wasn't really related to anything, but very, very welcome. However, it wasn't just we fans watching at home thrilled to see the droids, as Room star Jacob Tremblay was adorably excited to see the Star Wars characters, jumping out of his seat to get a better look.
The 9-year-old has talked about his love of Star Wars before, so I just hope that he was able to meet the droids backstage. So, why were C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8 at the Oscars to begin with? (Besides to delight us, obviously.) Rather than presenting an award, introducing a performer, or describing a Best Picture nominee, the droids just... did a bit. They came on stage, talked about C-3PO's resemblance to the Oscar statue (or rather, the statue's resemblance to C-3PO), discussed composer John Williams' impressive career, and riffed on a few more subjects before walking, gliding, and rolling off stage. You can see most of the segment below.
Still, the best moment has to be Tremblay's excitment at seeing the Star Wars scene-stealers.
Maybe C-3PO can talk to some people and get Tremblay a role in Star Wars: Episode VIII.
