Andra Day Goes Old Hollywood Glam At The Oscars
Sure, you might not have heard of her until she slayed at the Grammys this year, but Andra Day at the 2016 Oscars is totally rocking old Hollywood glamour and proving that she's got star power and stunning style that's here to stay.
ICYMI, Andra Day is a singer with an album and two singles under her belt; her debut album garnered two Grammys nominations this year, and she killed it in a performance with Ellie Goulding at the ceremony in February. She also was an unexpected favorite on the Grammys red carpet, wearing a heavily ruffled emerald green dress and white fur stole that, according to her stylist Wouri Vice in an interview with Billboard, was inspired by rockabilly and Lucille Ball.
This Oscars look is much less edgy, but it's definitely still got a feeling of Hollywood glamour that's perfect for the industry's biggest night. Day's pale yellow gown is fairly simple at first glance, but it's elevated with relatively small but very well-tailored details. There's the asymmetrical, off-the-shoulder sleeve and a little bit of draping across the front. She's also rocking a long slit over her left leg that shows off her sparkling silver sandals with a rhinestone-encrusted, thick ankle strap. They're no white furry sandals, like the ones she wore to the Grammys, but they definitely still make a statement.
Even though this look is fairly simple, Day is still breaking some fashion "rules," like mixing metals, pairing the silver shoes with a golden clutch, and a snaking, silver diamond bracelet with a gold ring.
The waved bob only adds to the feeling of old Hollywood, and when it's paired with that vampy burgundy lip and a warm smokey eye, it's totally Clara Bow for the modern age.
Seeing Day on the Oscars red carpet was an unexpected, but entirely pleasant, surprise, and with glamorous looks like this, she's quickly cementing her reputation as a red carpet favorite.
