See Cate Blanchett's Oscars Dress Evolution
When I think of my current fashion icons, my mind instantly goes to Cate Blanchett. Her golden locks, flawless skin, and of-the-moment sartorial choices make her one of the people to watch on the red carpet. While I can’t wait to see what Blanchett will wear to Feb. 28's 88th Annual Academy Awards, I thought it an opportune time to look back on Cate Blanchett’s Oscars style evolution. After all, she has attended the awards eight times.
While most red carpet pros stick to a certain silhouette or designer, Blanchett rarely plays it safe, opting instead for heavily embellished bodices and statement-making necklines. From her backless Grecian gown by Jean Paul Gaultier circa 2005 to the Givenchy fringe dress she wore to this year's Golden Globes, it seems as though Blanchett enjoys mixing it up in the sartorial department. Unlike her fashion statements, Blanchett keeps it simple when it comes to red carpet beauty. She rarely strays from her above the shoulder locks and bare-faced makeup look.
Having attended the Oscars eight times now, it’s no wonder Blanchett has perfected red carpet style. Scroll down to see each one of Blanchett's unique and on-trend ensembles from the Oscars through the years.
1999
Blanchett's figure fitting John Galliano gown was embellished just enough to catch the eye.
2000
Blanchett opted once again for a John Galliano dress at the Oscars in 2000. While the dress may seem conservative from the front, it is anything but. The back of the gown is composed of very little fabric and decorated with chunky gold jewelry.
2005
Blanchett was the epitome of Hollywood glamour in this pale yellow Valentino gown. Her soft curls and burgundy lips were the cherry on top of an already amazing outfit.
2007
Never one to shy away from an embellishment, Blanchett's form fitting Armani Privé gown that she wore to the Oscars in 2007 might just be my favorite red carpet look ever.
2008
I have yet to see black tie maternity look as chic as Blanchett's Dries Van Noten number from the 2008 Oscars.
2011
Blanchett looked both edgy and feminine in this pastel Givenchy gown that she wore to the Oscars in 2011. The strong shoulders, whimsical pleats, and subtle embellishments make this dress a showstopper.
2014
Who can forget Blanchett's Armani Privé gown from the 2014 Oscars? This sheer embellished gown looked as though it came out of a fairytale.
2015
Blanchett's John Galliano for Maison Martin Margiela gown was a bit simpler than most of her red carpet looks. However, in true Blanchett fashion, she made a statement with a chunky turquoise necklace.
