It's finally here: Oscar's big night. And while many awards show fans are just here to see Chris Rock tear down the stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, there's also something of an awards ceremony happening too. Who won Oscars in 2016 is still part of awards' season's biggest night. Huge names like Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Eddie Redmayne, Sylvester Stallone, and Leonardo DiCaprio are duking it out on national television (and by "duking it out" I mean sitting demurely and clapping for each other while other beautiful people hand out trophies). Fans of Alejandro González Iñárritu are counting on the director taking home his second directing trophy and second Best Picture statue in two years following last year's Birdman, while others root for fantastic underdogs like the fantastic Spotlight and the longshot, Mad Max: Fury Road.
And for those of who spent their Sunday evening hovering over Oscar brackets, feverishly anticipating wins and losses so they could see how close they'd get to that winner's pot o' wine (what, that's not how your friends reward winners of Oscar brackets?), the waiting and theorizing and predicting period is over. The awards are here, the decisions have been made. Whether or not your favorite won, it's time to just accept your fate: One doesn't just un-engrave a 13.5-inch gold statue, OK?
So without further ado, here is everything you need to know about this year's winners.
