10 Harry Potter Quotes About Happiness

by Amy Sachs

As any Harry Potter fan knows, reading the series is no easy feat. It's definitely not something that will be achieved with a dry eye. There are countless deaths, and the emotional strain is almost too much to bear. Come to think of it, why do we look back on reading this series with such nostalgia, again?

Oh, right, because despite wrenching our hearts from our bodies, it's the best series of all time, and we love Harry like he is our very own, real life friend. Because Hogwarts will always be there to welcome us home. And, of course, because J.K. Rowling keeps us coming back for more, even now, years after the series ended. At the heart of the books is a story about friendship, bravery, family, and yes, magic. But Harry Potter sticks with us for more than those reasons. J.K. Rowling just gets it. Looking back, there are even more profound quotes throughout the series than we ever even realized as kids.

Luckily, some of those are quotes about happiness, too, to keep things from getting too dark. There are quotes to give you hope, quotes to make saying goodbye just a little easier, and quotes that make us value our friends. But at the end of the day, if you just need a little pick me up, here are 10 quotes from the Harry Potter series about happiness.

1. "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."

— Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

2. “Don't let the muggles get you down.”

— Ron Weasley, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

3. “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.”

— Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

4. "What does a Patronus look like?" said Harry curiously.

"Each one is unique to the wizard who conjures it."

"And how do you conjure it?"

"With an incantation, which will work only if you are concentrating, with all your might, on a single, very happy memory."

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

5. "We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, Harry, but battle on."

Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

6. “Even the weather seemed to be celebrating; as June approached, the days became cloudless and sultry, and all anybody felt like doing was strolling onto the grounds and flopping down on the grass with several pints of iced pumpkin juice, perhaps playing a casual game of Gobstones or watching the giant squid propel itself dreamily across the surface of the lake.”

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

7. “Eat, you'll feel better."

Remus Lupin, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

8. “They reached their familiar, circular dormitory with its five four-poster beds, and Harry, looking around, felt he was home at last.”

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

9. “Do you see, Harry? Do you see the flaw in my brilliant plan now? I had fallen into the trap I had foreseen, that I had told myself I could avoid, that I must avoid.”

“I don’t —”

“I cared about you too much,” said Dumbledore simply. “I cared more for your happiness than your knowing the truth, more for your peace of mind than my plan, more for your life than the lives that might be lost if the plan failed. In other words, I acted exactly as Voldemort expects we fools who love to act."

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

10. "All was well."

J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
