Grammy Nominee James Bay Has The Cutest Romance

Per usual, there will be some new faces at the Grammys this year in the forms of the Best New Artist nominees. And one getting attention this year is English indie musician James Bay. The newcomer earned himself three Grammy nominations, so he is about to be a big name to watch in 2016. With heightened interest in his music, and his dashing good looks, there is an important question left to be begged: Who is James Bay dating, if anyone?

When the Grammy Award nominees are announced every year, there are sure to be some surprises and snubs, and James Bay's nominations certainly shocked the artist himself. He has already performed alongside Ed Sheeran and toured with Taylor Swift and Hozier, and I have a feeling that along with his brooding vocals, his long hair and signature hat have a bit to do with his growing female fan base.

He has model good looks and writes pretty songs, so who could he be writing these songs for? Does Bay have a girlfriend? Well, it seems like he has been booed up with a girl from back home in Hitchin, England for quite a while.

In early 2015, news was catching on of Bay's debut album, Chaos and the Calm, and people demanded more info about the young singer-songwriter. In February 2015, The Guardian published a profile the 25-year-old, which describes his close ties to his hometown, despite recording in Los Angeles and Nashville. The Guardian wrote that "he’s been with his girlfriend since they were teenagers in Hitchin."

On top of that, in a short profile for the Evening Standard , Bay completed the phrase "Home Is..." saying,

Wherever my girlfriend Lucy, my friends and family are. I live in Wood Green. I grew up in Hitchin.

Oh gosh, that is so sweet. So now we know her name is Lucy and that he is absolutely not shy about saying that he has a girlfriend. In a chat with Weekend Edition on NPR in May 2015, Bay discussed the song writing process for a specific song on his album, "Scars." He said,

My girlfriend moved away for the first time. We'd been together for three or four years at that point. And my entire world, given how close we are, just went very quiet. You have no idea how hard that is to deal with until you go through it — and it's not like it hasn't happened anybody else in the world.

This leads me to believe that he is talking about the same Lucy, and that they have probably been together for five or more years at this point. Some extensive googling leads me to a Lucy Smith, who has a Twitter and a (private) Instagram, that has lots of content that would connect her to Bay.

She recently just tweeted that she was in L.A. for the Grammys, and that could only mean she is there to support her boo on his huge night:

A further search reveals a personal blog, which hasn't been updated since April 2014, but has some more info on Smith. Her "About Me" page reads, "Lucy Smith dabbles in books and music and tours and films and other people’s business. She travels, photographs, reads, listens, sings, talks, wears stuff and sometimes she tries to WRITE."

She honestly sounds like a cool girl and the perfect match for James Bay!
