7 Tips For Eyelash Extension Care

by Kali Borovic

All good things require at least a little bit of TLC, including beauty trends. Getting longer, bolder lashes comes with some dedication, so there are a few tips you should know about caring for eyelash extensions. There's some work that goes into keeping them in tip top shape for as long as possible, but that shouldn't scare you away from trying the Twiggy-esque trend. With these seven tips, you'll get the most bang for your buck and stay looking flawless at the same time. It's a win-win!

If you're going to put your money into something you might as well take care of it, and lash extensions are no exception. Just because the beauty trend lets you skip a few makeup steps in the morning doesn't mean they should be completely ignored. It turns out that lash extensions can last from six to eight weeks, but that's only if you care for them properly.

Just like looking into the truths about eyelash extensions before you commit, you should also be aware that after you get the procedure, you'll have to change up your beauty routine slightly. If ditching your oil-based makeup remover and holding back on the liner isn't doable for you, then you should think twice about getting the procedure done.

Here's a few ways to get the most wear out of your lashes.

1. Use An Oil-Free Makeup Remover

While oil-based removers are great for getting stubborn makeup off, they might loosen the glue that holds lash extensions on, according to Byrdie. You may want to invest in a oil-free remover if you're looking to get the most wear out of your lashes.

2. Sleep On Your Back

According to Byrdie, sleeping on your back helps you prolong the wear of your lash extensions. It makes sense considering they won't be rubbing against your pillow all night long.

3. Don't Get Them Wet For 24 Hours

If you want to wear them for as long as possible, be sure not to get your lashes wet for 24 hours after first getting them, according to The Fashion Spot. This makes sure the glue is secure and bonded fully.

4. Skip The Waterproof Makeup

While you should skip wearing mascara altogether while you have lash extensions on, you should also skip waterproof eyeliner. Opt for a gel liner rather than a pencil, which can tangle your lashes.

5. Keep Them Hydrated

Allure suggests rubbing a drop of baby oil over the lashes with your fingers to keep them from getting too stiff. Just make sure not to drench your lashes in them, since the oil will make the adhesive wear off.

6. Don't Play With Them

This one's pretty obvious, but it's a good reminder. If you keep picking at your lashes and playing with them, they'll fall out sooner than if you just leave them alone.

7. Give Them A Brush

According to Elle Canada, you'll want to keep some clean mascara wands at your makeup desk for when your lashes start to clump. The more they clump, the more likely they are to fall out faster. Just make sure to brush from the middle, so you don't rub the adhesive off.
