Here's What Could Happen In 'Deadpool 2'
One of the great things about Deadpool's ability to break the fourth wall is the character's total, complete lack of inhibition — especially when it comes to telling the viewer about the potential for a sequel , Deadpool 2 . For instance, a scene early on in Deadpool has the antihero talking about future events he might take part in, right before musing, "that sounds like a f*cking franchise." In another, after completing a major mission, he tells the viewer, "till next time." And at the very end, during the post-credits scene, he jokes about the lack of a teaser for a follow-up film. Clearly, Deadpool himself supports the idea of a Deadpool 2, but once the follow-up starts getting planned, what would a Deadpool sequel even be about?
It has been confirmed that a sequel is already in the works, and many members of the cast and crew have eagerly discussed the possibilities for what it could include. In interviews shown below, the filmmakers have spoken about the characters, events, and plotlines Deadpool 2 could feature, and I've got a pretty good idea for what a Deadpool sequel could look like. Spoilers ahead!
Wayne & Vanessa Have A Baby
Although the couple's fate in the comics isn't particularly bright (they break up, she dies, she comes back to life), the movie could take a different route and see them, now reunited, get back together for real and start a family together. Imagine having those two for parents...
And Vanessa Gets To Show Off Her Own Powers
In the first movie, Vanessa, unfortunately, doesn't have too big a part, other than being Deadpool's romantic interest. But in the comics, she's Copycat, a mutant shape-shifter with impressive capabilities. Here's hoping that any potential sequel lets her show off her powers.
Cable Comes Into The Picture
Deadpool director Tim Miller recently told Empire that a sequel could potentially include Cable, a character best known as Deadpool's frenemy. Said the director, "There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable. If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail." The character, the son of Cyclops and Madelyn Pryor, is known to fans for getting into countless feuds with Deadpool, while also becoming his BFF. It'd be fun to see this guy in a sequel — especially if he's played by Jon Hamm, the actor Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has said he wants in the role.
The X-Men Play Bigger Roles
Deadpool only sees X-Men appearances by Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, so it'd be great to see more of the squad appear in a follow-up (and also get some more explanation for non-comic readers about how Deadpool and the X-Men know each other). Speaking of which...
Hugh Jackman Gets His Revenge
Let's be real: any Deadpool sequel must feature Jackman getting revenge on Wayne for dissing him all throughout the first movie. Maybe it could even be a shirtless fight — a girl can dream, OK?
Whatever happens with a sequel, one thing's for sure: you won't be able to forget Deadpool's snarky one-liners anytime soon.
