"Formation" May Be More Than A Song For Beyonce

by Sam Rullo

In case you didn't notice, this weekend has been all about Beyoncè. On Saturday, Beyonce released "Formation," an empowering song and music video that had fans even more thrilled for her big Super Bowl halftime performance. Then, just after her performance of the new track, Beyonce announced the 2016 Formation World Tour, giving us something to look forward to. But with so much emphasis on "Formation," I have to wonder if another announcement is coming. Is Formation the name of Beyonce's next album?

Though Queen Bey hasn't officially announced a new album, releasing a new song and going on tour suggests that one must be in the works. "Formation" needs a home, after all, and for the singer to go on a full tour, she'll need more than one new song to fill a fresh, exciting set. When her next album title is revealed, the chances are very high that it'll be called Formation, just like the song and tour. Previously, Beyoncè has given a few tours the same name as her album, like 2003's Dangerously In Love tour and album, and the 2009-2010 I Am... Tour, which promoted I Am... Sasha Fierce.

With all of this emphasis on "Formation," it's definitely the frontrunner to be Beyoncè's next album title. By the time she announces the album, fans will be totally obsessed with the song and getting hyped for the tour, so why not feed the Formation frenzy even more by making it the title of one of the most anticipated albums of the year?
