The plus size world was abuzz when Rebel Wilson and Torrid released their first collection late in 2015. It was a line filled with blacks, whites, reds, and grays, appropriate for the season and definitely the kind of thing you could expect to see in any Manhattanite's wardrobe. But Feb. 7 marks the arrival of Rebel Wilson x Torrid's spring collection, and this time we're seeing all the pastels, all the lace, and all of the actor-comedian's cool kid style adapted for the budget-friendly fatshionista. Considering how beloved Wilson is as a plus size style icon, one might assume that this is exactly the kind of range that'd disappear from the Internet as swiftly as Yeezy Boost 350s. But lucky for us lovers of all things fatshion, the 24 items are still available both online and in stores IRL.
In March 2015, Wilson admitted to being a "reluctant plus size fashion icon" of sorts, noting that because she's one of the few celebrities her age and size, she was almost thrown into the role without any previous interest in the sartorial world. Although it's a complete shame that someone might be forced to assume a role they don't necessarily want simply because they're amongst the only Hollywood folks to fit a certain marginalized demographic, I have to say I'm personally stoked that Wilson seems to have found her fashion footprint.

Reluctant icon or not, Wilson is helping fill some gaps in the market. Torrid is a longtime plus size-specific brand, and her involvement with the retailer seems to suggest awareness of the importance of supporting the community rather than co-opting it. The fact that she's included bright colors, fun details, and femme silhouettes only makes things better, considering brightness and fun aren't exactly things that were available to us for quite some time.
As of the morning of Feb. 7, all items remain available on Torrid.com in the brand's 0 to 6 sizing, which equates to roughly 12 through 30, or L through 6XL. Prices vary from $22.50 to $98.50, so there's honestly a little something for every budget.

What I'm particularly excited about is the collection's availability in stores. Too often, plus size women have to "buy before they try," because plus sizes are all too rarely available in brick and mortar locations of retailers. If you're the type of human who simply doesn't believe in dishing out hard-earned dollars before committing to your clothing, this is the collection to shop.
Wilson may have entered the world of fashion reluctantly, but she's bringing a new voice, a new perspective, and a new aesthetic to the plus size market. And we could definitely use all the voices, perspectives, and aesthetics we can get.
